Baby showers UK vs US

So i stumbled upon a thread and learned that baby showers are only a custom in the US and not in the UK.
I posted this thread to start a debate, Do you believe baby showers are good and fun? Good but overdone? Ridiculous and expensive? Greedy and rude? or w/e you think it is?
Be nice and say if your from the UK or US

im from the uk i think the concept is fun although before baby i think its just a ploy to get gifts, i think a shower after as a meet and greet time thing would be less "greedy"
