Hey ladies

last time i was at the hospital I remembered reading a sign about coming in asap if you havent felt your baby kick at least x amount of times per day....

I just wondered at 27 weeks or in the third trimester in general how often should you feel the baby kick per day before you should be concerned?

I feel my little man every day, normally through out the day at some point and always at night... but i have felt him a little less the last week or so

Are you ladies keeping track of movements and if so whats the norm?

Thanks

Trudie x

I was told to wait until after 28 weeks to monitor movement but have heard different stpries as to what you should actually monitor.

Count the kicks says you should feel 10 'episodes' of movement throughout the day. The midwife says you should feel 10 movements in the space of a couple of hours (usually at a time when you know they are active)

I've taken the view now that as long as I feel a similar amount of movement at some point during the day, every day then she must be ok in there as I have scnas every 2 weeks and the midwife every 3 weeks and they are all happy.

Her movement has changed since 32 weeks though and is now more wriggling and poking body parts out then thudding and bumping around like she used to. We get hiccups from time to time as well now. I guess she's just running out of room now.

If you're worried at all ring your midwives for advice, they are usually more than happy to help and reassure. x

I have been reading differing approaches too, starting at 28 weeks. I have read that you should feel 10 movements per day (kick, shift, anything). In a different book it was at least 6 per hour. I also read that you should pick 2 hours in the day, once in the morning and once in the evening and monitor the movements and make sure you get 6-10 within that hour.

Some babies are more active than others. And babies in the womb sleep a lot, so is it realistic for them to be kicking every hour??

Personally, my baby will move 10 times or more in a short time period (like, 15-20 minutes) then I'll feel nothing for 3 or 4 hours (sometimes more) and then I'll get another shift or kick. I never feel anything at night either. I'm not too worried, this is the way its always been for me. I would be concerned if I had a super active baby and then all of a sudden the movement was noticably decreased, but for me long periods of no/little movement is normal.

Start paying attention to when and how much your baby moves, and you might start to see patterns which you can pay attention to.
