My little boy is in his first year of reception. He doesn't really enjoy school and its always a battle to take him in in the mornings. He also tends to express himself when he is angry through being physical i.e. pushing etc.

I have explained to him about using kind hands and how it isn't right it hurt others but it doesn't seem to be working.

Does anyone have an experience or ideas as to how I can encourage him to express himself in more positive ways?

Thank you in advance. :)

He knows to not hit and why hitting is not ok. He needs to be able to recognize his feelings and when he is calm, he needs to learn alternative strategies not only for expressing his feelings, but also dealing with them. Examples: deep breaths, count to ten, press hands together, walk away, jump on trampoline, et cetera.

Have you tried discussing what upsets him calmly, listening without interruption or being on defense. Allows them to express their feelings. Then find solutions like making up scenarios and discussing the right and wrong way to handle (would you do A or B).

Practice time out (not the bad kind) ... like counting, need some of their own space to relax etc
