Big Cats in the UK?

idk what would u say that was if not a big cat?

they bred with domestic cats and made hybrid ones apparently

I don't think that is impossible, but I don't think it's likely either. Wild cat/domestic cats hybrid without human intervention are really rare and where they do occur it is between small wild cats of similar size to domestic cats, not Panthers and domestic cats, yet Panthers would have been the sort of cats to be released in the 70's. Also, if breeding between wild and domestic cats had occurred, then the hybrids produced, if not infertile (a lot of hybrids are and this was a problem when originally creating Bengals) would have continued to breed with domestic cats and over time the hybrids would have become more and more like domestic cats and would probably be the same or similar in size. Yet, a lot of the apparent sightings are of 'big cats'.

I have no idea, but knowing the size of railway lines and also the height of those yellow posts next to them, it just doesn't look that big.

Of course, I am no expert, but I find it odd that no decent expert has come forward and said yes, it definitely looks like a big cat.

have you never seen a bengal cat? Thats the product of an asian leopard and a domestic cat breeding  and they can end up being quite big although they'll be watered down over years and years to get them smaller and more domestic.

railway lines are 5ft across and the cat looks about the size of the gap inbetween the rails... so its the same length as a woman basically  thats big.

I mentioned Bengals in my post, didn't you read it fully?

Like I said, it's not impossible the cat in the video is a big cat, but if it is, why hasn't it been confirmed?! It's all hearsay and speculation from people who are not experts. Why aren't there more sightings if big cats exist and are breeding, be it with each other or domestic cats?

No I skimmed your post tbh. I thought I read it properly but obv not.. no need to be rude or patronising about it.

There has been loads of sightings, just not all of them have been filmed or taken a picture of so they don't get much news coverage.

heres another good bit of evidence and a comparison to how big the wall is.

but what if somthing like that bred with another large wild cat or bengal rather then a domestic cat, they have wild calls to find each other for a reason.
Then the bloodlines may not be pure but they arnt being made smaller by domestics

Sorry, I didn't mean in the wild, I meant through selective mating by the breeders  Bengal cats have always been bred for domestic purposes i thought.

I ment as in any escaped large cat, if panthers can escape so can bengals.

Sorry I keep giggling to myself with an image of someone trying to mate a large cat with a domestic and the domestic thinking "what the fu*k it that? allright im sorry I scratched the sofa" :)

:rofl::rofl:

This thread is terrifying

 at the sofa comment!

I just googled 'big cat sightings north Devon' (where I live) and found something about a farmer finding a skull which was confirmed as a puma skull.

Apparantly Devon is in the top 10 places for sightings, which doesn't suprise me at all considering the huge amount of open countryside we have!

I think it's subjective, people see what they want to see. None of this is new footage. Big cats in the UK are something I have been interested in for quite a while, but I just don't feel there is any absolute evidence to suggest there are any. Equally, like I said, I don't think it can be completely ruled out.

Do you not find it odd that despite the fact that there are people who eliberately go out and look for these big cats with cameras there is not more reliable footage of them, which has been examined by experts and confirmed as a big cat sighting?

Do you not find it odd that there have been no confirmed killings of any big cats? There were some cats supposedly killed in the late 80's, (which might correlate with big cats being released in the 70's) but no photographic evidence of that that I have seen and no confirmed reports of big cats killed since then.

A few months back there was a sheeps body (been half eaten) and it was trapped in a barbed wire fence, (hung over the top of it) and they found big paw prints close by...they believe that was a big cat.

I dont know, and id rather not know tbh...if i saw one, id shit myself...

i have to agree with this lol id reather be blissfully unaware!

Yeah i guess i do believe there are "big cats" out there, same as all kinds of creatures in lakes and stuff. I dont know why i do, i've never seen anything, but its kind of exciting in a weird way.

i do believe there probably WAS but maybe not now.

however how do we not know that there are not people in the UK who are illegally importing the animals and selling them on> they would make quite a fortune i would think.

Or escaping from places

although i did see something scsarier...

in edinburgh zoo..about a 2 mins walk away form the beary things who have rabies atm...

WAS A PERSONS HOUSE! AN ACTUAL PERSON NOT ZOO PEOPLES!

oh god how i shat a brick if i lived there!

LOL i did a little googling about it around here and Kim Wilde :)haha: appropriate or what?) actually made a documentary about this because where she lives in Codicote her family apparently kept seeing this "thing"

I've never really thought about it. I think there could be though, why not?
Just googled black puma/panther and they are gorgeous! So stunning... hehe obviously wouldn't like to meet one up close but the pictures are gorgeous
xxx
