Hello gals,

So I have been breastfeeding my almost 2 month old since birth but have decided that we don't want to take any chances of falling pregnant again, as he was our last one. I was anticipating working at 6 weeks but had not gotten a stash made for DH to give a bottle. So for a couple of days we gave him some formula (maybe 2 feedings a day) and I would pump about 6oz within 10 minutes. This was about a month ago. I asked my OB/GYN for birth control and she suggested the mini pill. I took it for two days and voila.. I have a full blown period. Obviously, I was looking forward to enjoying not having to worry about bleeding after 6 long weeks of it.
I stopped taking the pill to see if it was the pill that caused the "period" or if I have indeed ovulated.
I was wondering if any of you ladies had experienced bleeding on the mini pill while breastfeeding and it stopped eventually or if you kept getting periods.

I bled very irregularly on the mini pill the four months that I was on it. I would get a flow every two weeks or so :(

Ugh.. That is pretty much the overall issue that I have read people come across... Unfortunately, that really interferes with how active I am. I'm on my feet 12+ hours many days and I don't want to randomly bleed into my pants and I'm not spending a small fortune on pads to wear constantly... Looks like we'll be going the condom route until I'm done breastfeeding and can take a combination pill. :(

Given that this baby was your last, the copper IUD is an excellent choice. No hormones - so it can be inserted right away - and it lasts 10 years.

Unfortunately I had the same experience. I had the arm implant which is the same hormone as the mini pill and unfortunately the entire time I had it, I bled on and off. I think some women just react that way to the progesterone only birth control.

I'm not a big fan of birth control to begin with but I'm really not comfortable with having an IUD. I would much prefer either just using condoms/calendar method combined or pills. I only plan on breastfeeding for a year so 10 more months isn't going to be a problem. I just wanted the mini pill for reassurance that a pregnancy wouldn't occur.
I only hope that my period doesn't keep coming back every month since I only took it for a couple days...
