Bladder for 20 week scan? Full... Half full.. Nothing??

I went in at exactly 20 weeks and was told to have an EMPTY bladder. She even made me go pee before she started so I didn't have anything in there. Scan was fine other than the baby not wanting to help and the lady being a bitch.

My letter said to drink 8-12oz 1 hour before the appointment and not to void.

I was about to burst by the time i got in to my scan (40 minutes late as they were running behind! torture!).

The sonograoher told me she only needed a full bladder to see my ovaries and uterus properly and as soon as she had got the right images, she let me go pee. She said she didn't need a full bladder to get images of the baby. She then spent the rest of the appointment complaining that because I hadn't eaten lunch, the baby wouldn't move and that she couldn't get the right images. she eventually gave up and I had to come back a week later so they could get the proper images of the heart, though I don't think that had anything to do with bladder content!

I'm in Scotland. I went with a full bladder but was really uncomfortable and the sonographer told me to go and empty my bladder. She said they ideally want something in it but it's not necessary for it to be full.x

Sounds like none of these sono techs can agree. I had to pee before my 14 week scan, but I waited patiently for the Tech to call me in. When she did, she asked if I needed to use the bathroom first. And 64 oz of water an hour before?? I normally drink about twice as much water as recommended daily and I think I would have a hard time with that requirement.

I think it depends on how modern the equipment is, with my 12 week scan I was actually told to go toilet before having the scan. Then with the 20 week scan they neither asked me to go to the toilet or drink water, it seems it was indifferent to the result!

Here they just say to drink a lot the two days before so you are well hydrated. Then they ask you not to use the restroom when you get there, but sometimes have you go mid way through the ultrasound

I went for a private scan at 13 weeks and I got there an hour early just as I finished chugging my water. My bladder was empty! They offered me to go in right then and there and I told her I couldnt yet. She brought me in and we had no issues at all. Makes me wonder the importance of the full bladder
