I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum last week by the tech and have yet to see my doctor but saw it with my own eyes and there wasn't anything there. I am always hoping for a miracle but was going to have my bloodwork rechecked. It was 12,325 on target for my 8+6 date but was going to recheck today at 9+2.

My question is, is there any point in checking my progesterone? Does it matter right now? I wanted to cover all my bases to see if I can come up with any ideas of what happened but would it be helpful at all?

Thanks.

i never had a blighted ovum miscariage i had two natural miscarriages, i was going to get my progesterone taken unitll i thought there was no point in doing so. i think its just me being completely unlucky and hopefully third time lucky!!!! thats all i can give you... but its up to you if it puts your mind at rest you do so! if you do let me no how it goes.
good luck xxx

They can check it now, but they will need to check it again once you ovulate again that's the big thing, I'm suppose to have mind checked on Friday

I'm so sorry you're going through this.

As I understand it, they check HCG levels because, in a healthy pregnancy, they should keep doubling and doubling every couple of days. When you have a blighted ovum, the placenta eventually ramps down the HCG production and eventually your body gets the message and miscarries.

I don't think there's anything to be gained from testing your progesterone levels. If you had a lot of early miscarriages or chemical pregnancies, then it could be due to low progesterone not allowing a big enough window for your fertilized egg to implant, but that's not your problem here. You got pregnant just fine, and the pregnancy stuck, but no baby was made.

Keep getting the HCG checked if you're going to wait this one out. I wouldn't bother with other hormones, based on what little I know of it.

I'm really sorry about your BO. I had one a year ago, diagnosed at the same time as you, and I waited for a few weeks, eventually getting a D&C at week 12 or 13 when I just couldn't stand the waiting anymore. It was really, really hard and I'm so sorry you're in the middle of it right now. Love and strength.

Do you have any other symptoms of low progesterone (ie spotting or short LP during your other cycles)?

Now that you have already been diagnosed with a BO, I am not sure if getting your progesterone checked would be helpful or not, but if you have symptoms of low progesterone I would get it checked at 7dpo. I have read on a couple websites that while most BO's are chromosonal defects, low progesterone can cause a BO (I have never had this fact confirmed by a dr though).

I had a BO in July/Aug and I had my progesterone checked before the pregnancy was confirmed to be nonviable and my progesterone was low (6.8). I also have a short LP and spotting during my LP. I am now on Prometrium to help support my natural progesterone, but as of yet I haven't conceived again.

If you have other symptoms of low progesterone, it is worth discussing with your Dr.
