I'm on CD 51 and am 24dpo today and have gotten BFN's on every urine pregnancy test I've taken. I have a doctor's appointment set for Sept 4th that can't come soon enough. I have tons of pregnancy symptoms including cramping 5-10dpo and creamy blood tinged cervical mucus 7dpo (see my other symptoms here)

I've researched other ways to test after reading story after story about how some women never get a BFP on a home pregnancy test throughout their entire pregnancy (since I might be one of them!)

The other night I came across saliva ferning - which I am positive for (see here). This made me feel better; however, the result is not as definitive as a positive pregnancy test would be.

Today I found an article on Academic Life in Emergency Medicine written by Michelle Lin, MD.

It is about how you can use blood on urine pregnancy tests and reviews the findings of a study that found that the results from using blood on urine tests were very accurate. I found it very interesting and felt I could trust it since it was written by a reputable source. And being so late, I am pretty desperate for an answer.

So I bought a lancing device to prick my finger for just under $6:

It was super scary to use at first and I had to work up a lot of nerve to use it, but it ended up being surprisingly painless.

I used an IC from early-pregnancy-tests.com that I cut about half the end off and cut off some of the plastic that covers the absorbent tip so I could put the drops of blood directly on tip.

I got a few drops on (had to prick a couple fingers to saturate the test tip) and then to move things along applied 3 drops of water with a dropper. In the article it says not to do this as it causes unnecessary dilution, but I felt it was taking too long and did not want the blood to dry on the test - and I'm 24 dpo so I was not concerned too much about diluting the blood since it should contain more than enough hcg if I am indeed pregnant. The blood/water moved across the testing area, at first there was nothing (I thought a line would show immediately) but after a minute I had a line that gradually became darker:

It was finally nice to see what DH and I have felt was true all along! :happydance:

I hope this post helps someone that is also endlessly waiting for a positive on a home pregnancy test well after the point they should have had BFP like me.

UPDATE: Wondfo tests will give a false positive result with blood every time.

Dip strips from early-pregnancy-tests.com and cheap cartridge tests from Walmart will not give a false positive and are very accurate. These are the 3 tests I have tried.

Wow, that's really interesting, thank you!

And congratulations!

Aw wow congratulations knobby! X

This is the coolest thing I have read in awhile. Very nice. Glad it worked for you, though I'm sorry about how everything turned out.
