Hi ladies,

I have been testing my blood sugar on oh monitor as felt faint.

Yest it ran at around 2. to 2.7, and today its beeen 3, and 4. Should i see a doc, or am i not taking enough calories...am very worried!!!!! as i know the norm is between 4-7, so 2&3 seems low. Am worried this will harm me, and bubs. x x x x x:sick:

Are you diet control.
Im insulin dep diabetic and at blood sugar 2.7 i would need lucozade to get it back up a bit.
Its carbohydrate you need thats count

2.7 is low. I know it varies slightly, but mine should be between 3.5 and 5.5 before a meal, and under 8 one hour after a meal.

How are you eating? And are you eating regularly? Try eating something that has sugar, even some fruit juice or yoghurt, and see if that makes a difference. If you are worried go to the doctor for advice.

Thanks ladies,

Im not diabetic as far as i know ehich concerns me!!!! my oh was just diagnosed type 1 so have been testing on his, as feel giddy and tired all the time. could this be a sign of a gestational prob do you think?I only geta 4 one hour after food then it starts to drop, and i eat alot...lol. but have been cutting out the choccies with him to be suportive! x x x

i would check with the doc. 2.7 is not good. im type 1 diabetic and although its good for your blood sugar to be stable you dont want to fall and hurt you or the baby. hope you feel better soon.xx

Think i will hun,

I just had a sip of diet coke as was feeling a bit sick&sometimes it helps(never usually drink pop)&thought i'll take my blood sugar to see if improved, shock horror it was 1.9....re- took it after a min and was back up to 5, but i presume that was the coke......how long does sugar take to work usually? Its starnge i have never had this prob before x x x x x x x

i would try and see docs soon. It doesnt take to long for sugar to kick in but if you only diet coke it shouldn't of made a difference, well it wouldn't with me x

called docs and going in for some bloods just to rule out problems. They said as long as it doesnt go below 2,which it has??? and i am not fainting (too late once it happened tho)it should be fine....hmmmm for something thats fine it doesnt half make you feel horrible. W e'll see what happens. thanks for advice all x x x x x x x x x

hope it gets sorted. Just make sure you have some lucozade with you it will boost it x

i've no idea about gd, but diet coke doesn't have sugar in it (only artificial sweetners) so maybe that wouldn't work in increasing your blood sugar levels?

xx

Ur rite odd socks, it wasnt the diet coke ...think i hadnt washed my hands properly after giving baby his yog, cos half an hour later and it was 2 again, so must have been a false reading. Didnt realise you could have hypo symtoms when not diabetic, but nurse said this is the case. Progesterone can change insulin levels...too much...or too little. Will wait&see what comes from blood work now!

My oh is really jelous as his are sooo high....which is a bit mean when im nearly fainting.....lol!

Thanks pink lucozade was a good call....works a treat! x x x

glad something is getting done. if it drops again make sure you have carbohydrate to eg toast otherwise it will go up with sugar then just come back down xx

Just looked up something quite interesting, and found the reason for low blood sugar in preg (other than diabetes) is rising levels of cholecystkinin hormone that comes along with the wonderful hcg.

This causes nausea etc..... and also makes ur digestive system more efficient therefore eating more frequently is advisable however due to nasea you dont feel like it....round in a circle!!

If you are not getting enough nutrition this causes starvation ketonitis (which you guys are prob familliar with being diabetic) resulting in raised ketones eating into fat stores&muscle, thus creating more nasea and faintness, and more low blood sugar.

It also said this is more common with twins...hmmmmmm:wacko:

Anyway, my partners diabetic nurse called round yest and saiid her levels were frequently 2& its fine for a non diabetic, which my doctor disagreed with completely so got dextros to hand and am off to get some bloods done this aft, but looks like it may be one of those 9month niggles accordinding to this info&will have to take better care of myself!!!:hugs:
