BLW - what did your LO eat today?

Not much she has croup :(

Poor girl :( Hope she gets better soon

Maria ate toast for breakfast (weird potato bread that has raisins and prune puree in it, quite yummy actually and she seemed to like it as she wolfed it down) and had potatos, broccoli and rice for dinner (she didn't get to eat the meat patties we were having as they were very salty)

Oh and she tried redcurrants and greengages for a snack, she liked the greengages but didn't seem so keen on the redcurrant.

B - weetabix and toast (DH fed her - this is his culinary limit!)
L - baked cod, cheesy mash and peas
D - pasta in a tomato and mushroom sauce.

Not great on the fruit front today, she's got really bad nappy rash and I only have citrus type fruits in, I'm worried they might not help.

we have been aoiding fruit today, as hayden has had lots of very nasty nappies the last couple of days. however, he is his usual happy self, and my sister pointed out that her kids all had the same when they were teething. i thought the teething causing runny nappies thing was a myth, but

so, he had:

breakfast: porridge fingers, with blueberry jam (thought this probably didn't count as 'real' fruit)

lunch: i was out shopping, so hubby fed him. i gather he had a dairylea sandwich, some organix sweetcorn rings, and a bit of an oaty bar - hubby then realised there was fruit in it and took it off him! gave him a gingerbread man instead.

tea: pitta bread with ham and cheese, a strawberry yogurt.

hmm, perhaps a bit heavy on the bread today. must try to avoid so much tomorrow!

^ LO always has really bad nappies when she's teething, really runny and acidic.

Well still not eating as much as shes still sick but today she ate

B - pear
L - Chicken and veg soup
D - satay chicken tortillas with lettuce and tomato and a yogurt

B - porridge, toast, peach
L - morrocan lamb meatballs, cous cous, cauliflower
D - chicken, ham and leek pie

Today's lesson - cous cous is possibly the messiest food ever invented.

my girl likes her food!!

Luke had today (he's not in set mealtimes yet so I'll just list what he had)

Chicken in a spicy 'piri-piri' sauce- It had a bit of a kick but he LOVED it. He had this with sticky rice.

Apple rice cakes with some Ella's kitchen pear purée spread on as I got it for free!

Nectarine- he loved this too and seemed to swallow quite a lot!

And messiest food.....my vote goes to broccoli rice and couscous haha x

Breakfast - Porridge fingers
Lunch - Jacket potato with unsalted butter and grated cheese
Tea - Roast chicken with cauliflower, broccoli and carrots

b - a banana & a portion of readybrek (there wasn't much of either left over!).
l - fish fingers (after seeing the post on them yesterday, she ate her 2 within 3 minutes & then had half of one of mine, definitely a hit!), mash potato, peas & sweetcorn.
s - some brioche (she ate about half)

Can I ask how you make porridge fingers?

the recipe is in the gill rapley blw cookbook, which i can't be bothered to get to check the original quantities, but basically you mix equal amounts of porridge oats and milk in a small bowl, then microwave - without stirring - until it is set. i use an 80ml measuring cup, and microwave on high power for about 1.5 - 2 minutes. hayden loves them with a little st dalfour blueberry jam (no added sugar) - i microwave for about 30 secs first, then drop little blobs of jam on top and microwave for the rest of the time. you can add the jam before microwaving, but it gets crazy and bubbly, and so hot it takes ages to cool down, so i prefer to add it just before it startes to set. it took a few goes to get the right quantities, bowl size and cooking time, so if they don't seem quite right, just tweak it a little. they are pretty hot when they come out and with the chance of 'hotspots' with microwave cooking you really need to give them plenty of time to cool down.

as for hayden - i think we may be having an eating regression! not only are his nappies an issue still, he has started to chew his food and spit most of it back out so he is not actually eating much now. and at teatime he wouldn't even do that - it was soft, runny food or nothing. we think maybe another tooth is trying to poke through already, bless him. either that or the original 2 are hurting. may have to make soup tomorrow.

today i offered:

b - malted wheats, a nectarine (did eat quite a bit of this actually)

l - sausage, homemade chips, baked beans (chewed and spat out mostly) and tinned peaches and a tiny bit of banana angel delight (we were at my mum's and i felt bad at first until i realised he probably ate more than that when we had only just started weaning and we had angel delight for messy play at peep and he slurped it off the table!)

s - organix gingerbread man (gave it a suck so it was nice and gooey, then threw it on the carpet!)

t - dairylea on a slice of bread, a couple of organix carrot stix, a piece of cucumber (all chewed and spat out), blackcurrant yogurt and a banana (ate these with not too much fuss)

any suggestions for soft food i can offer him? especially savoury? poor little chap loves his food, but i think the gums are just too sore :(

B-banana, strawberries, and plum
L-cucumber, tomato and kiwi
D-roast parsnips, steamed carrot and broccoli, chicken then strawberries

Thanks I'll try that out :)

did you try the porridge fingers, natsku?

today has gone well - managed to find plenty of soft, non-chewy foods :)

breakfast - porridge wedges (was feeling frivolous and made the 'fingers' in a round bowl :haha:) - plain, with blueberry jam spread on top (rather messier than with the jam cooked in them!) and a nice, ripe nectarine

snack - grapes

lunch - slice of fresh bread with the crusts cut off, with dairylea, a tomato, small piece of quiche, and a strawberry fromage frais

tea - thick butternut squash soup (my first ever homemade soup, from the blw cookbook - yummy, and very easy ), slice of fresh bread with the crusts cut off (hmm, too much bread again?) and a banana for dessert.

the soup was thick enough to give him by pre-loaded spoon, and i also dipped the bread in it for him. he didn't like it soaked in it, though - just dipped at one end and dry the other.

does anyone's lo use dippers yet? when did they start, and how did you introduce it? the only thing hayden dips is his fingers, but then he just spreads it about rather than eating it! :dohh:
