Can I ask how you make porridge fingers?
the recipe is in the gill rapley blw cookbook, which i can't be bothered to get to check the original quantities, but basically you mix equal amounts of porridge oats and milk in a small bowl, then microwave - without stirring - until it is set. i use an 80ml measuring cup, and microwave on high power for about 1.5 - 2 minutes. hayden loves them with a little st dalfour blueberry jam (no added sugar) - i microwave for about 30 secs first, then drop little blobs of jam on top and microwave for the rest of the time. you can add the jam before microwaving, but it gets crazy and bubbly, and so hot it takes ages to cool down, so i prefer to add it just before it startes to set. it took a few goes to get the right quantities, bowl size and cooking time, so if they don't seem quite right, just tweak it a little. they are pretty hot when they come out and with the chance of 'hotspots' with microwave cooking you really need to give them plenty of time to cool down.
as for hayden - i think we may be having an eating regression! not only are his nappies an issue still, he has started to chew his food and spit most of it back out so he is not actually eating much now. and at teatime he wouldn't even do that - it was soft, runny food or nothing. we think maybe another tooth is trying to poke through already, bless him. either that or the original 2 are hurting. may have to make soup tomorrow.
today i offered:
b - malted wheats, a nectarine (did eat quite a bit of this actually)
l - sausage, homemade chips, baked beans (chewed and spat out mostly) and tinned peaches and a tiny bit of banana angel delight (we were at my mum's and i felt bad at first until i realised he probably ate more than that when we had only just started weaning and we had angel delight for messy play at peep and he slurped it off the table!)
s - organix gingerbread man (gave it a suck so it was nice and gooey, then threw it on the carpet!)
t - dairylea on a slice of bread, a couple of organix carrot stix, a piece of cucumber (all chewed and spat out), blackcurrant yogurt and a banana (ate these with not too much fuss)
any suggestions for soft food i can offer him? especially savoury? poor little chap loves his food, but i think the gums are just too sore
