Any suggestions? I have no idea what she owns already, but was told she likes books.

Do you know what she's into? Is she young enough to be into some of the classics like the Little House on the Prairies series? If she's closer to 12 and more grown up, try the Wildwood trilogy by Colin Meloy.

(linked to goodreads so you can get some reviews)
Another good one for that age might be The Apothecary by Maile Meloy (no relation to Colin!).
If you can find out a few authors/series she is already into, I can be more helpful! :)

My DD is 9 and has just gotten into Jacqueline Wilson

DD1 is 10 and she reads a range of books, her favourites are harry potter, Ronald dahls, narnia, books by Michael morpurgo, Jacqueline Wilson, I'm sure there's a few more just can't think of any right now. :)

malorie blackman is another good one
for that age

:flower:

My DD loves Jacqueline wilson,Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Tom Gates,Gansta Granny and some girls in my sons class (age 10 read Hunger Games)

A few more I just thought of that she may be less likely to have as they are a bit older:
an excellent Arthurian fantasy series called The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper
Astrid Lindgren! Ronia the Robbar's Daughter, Pippi Longstocking, etc
Tove Jansson Moomintroll series
Philip Pullman (author of Dark Materials trilogy - that series is brilliant!) also did several wonderful girl-protagonist adventures: the Sally Lockhart Quartet
