My DD was 6 months when she said Dada

My DS is 7 months and said Mama for the first time this morning :happydance:

I'm not exactly sure when this was but my first word was "Kitty" and my brother's first word was "Cookie". And it honestly explains a lot because I love cats (seriously, if I could, I would have like 1000 cats) and my brother loves to eat.

Dada and mama are universal babbles made by even deaf babies, but I think mama came before dada with both of mine.

Thomas's first word was teddy at 23 months and Sophie's was poo at 16 months.

Ageed with Minties. My eldest was babbling dada at 5 months and my other two around 7/8mths. First real words were
Dd1 "Baby" at 14 months
Dd2 I dont even know what her first word was!! But she had a handful by 12 months
Dd3 "Dog" at 10.5mths. She is now 15 months and says around 100 words (Actually. Her speech is ridiculous)

Poo is an awesome first word! :haha:

My LO (girl) said 'baby' at 15 months. I didn't count the mama/dada babbles before that because she didn't say them in context consistently. That kind of expression doesn't usually come until 9+ months. 'Dad' was her second word a few weeks after her first.

My son's first real word was 'teddy' at 10 months, and my daughter's was 'duck', also at 10 months.

Rory didn't even babble til after 2. Felix has been saying 'dada' and other babbles for about a month (he's 6 months now) but I don't consider them words yet.

My sons first word at 11 months was 'pretty' I have no idea where he got it from but I'm adamant he was talking about his mama! Haha

Leo babbles "mom" and "mama" all the time. It's really just babbling at the ages that you mentioned. I don't actually remember how old Violet was when she said her first word, but it must have been somewhere around 11 months. Her first word was "kitty cat." By a year she had 3 words. I can't remember which ones, but her earliest words besides kitty cat were "up," "dada," and "that." She didn't say "mama" until somewhere around 16 months or so.

DS is almost 9 months and is always babbling lol, he started saying mamma a week or so ago whenever he wants to be picked up, not sure yet if it's a word or just normal babble as I haven't heard him say it except when he wants picking up. Even if just babble though I love it, waited a long time to hear it lol. He also says bella when he sees our dog but pretty sure it's just fluke. Can't wait to watch how his speech develops. He likes shouting rarara a lot at the moment r's are the sound of the month lol.

Agree - mine started babbling mamamamama at 4.5 months; the exact day we got her tongue tie snipped! No intent to it whatsoever - I think she was just practising sounds. But she never really babbled much - I never heard anything like the 'foreign language' babbling some parents get!

Her first word was 'dog' at about 10 months.

By 1, she had about 15 words.

She said 'dada' in the correct context from about 14 months, but didn't say 'mama' at all until a few weeks ago. In the past month, she has changed it to 'Mummy' and 'Daddy' and now has about 100 words.

This morning she said 'Yes please' - this is her third two-word phrase now, so I am expecting a new phase of language development to open up soon!

I'm another one who doesn't count babbling. Eldest said 'dinosaur' at 14 months.

I can't remember how old ds 1 was! But he said narnie for banana as his first word, closely followed by duck!

My eldest babbled data first but my youngest babbles mama. DS1 first word was light (he was obsessed with lights!) He was about 11 months old. DS2 hasn't said his first proper word yet

Apparently Violet's first word was actually at a few days short of 10 months. Looks like she's ahead of him in walking AND talking!
