After a thread was started about how much to eat when bf-ing etc I was just curious on whether it really does help with the weight loss or because you have to eat more due to be hungry is more down to female genetics rather than if you bf or not!??!!

Im not obsessed with weight loss I promise!!

not sure about that..may be a bit of both. i'm losing weight, but i'm not eating massive amounts either, my appetite has gone.

Difficult to know! I bf for 6 months and lost all my pg weight quite quickly, but my family are quite skinny too so who knows! xxx

There is likely a fine line bettween eating to support your body and its needs during breastfeeding and over eating... I guess every individual person needs to find their correct balance.

The rule little and often is never wrong, and as long as you cut down very slowly and are not actually hungy then there likely isnt anything wrong with that.

Most people dont drink enough fluids (ever)... Breastfeeding uses up alot of fluids and this can make you feel hungry too.

I agree.... I know i dont drink enough and often ppl mistake the thirst signal for hunger!!

But for instance with Weight watchers... a breastfeeding mother is allowed an extra 10 points a day!! Thats huge!! Like a whole dinner!!

im not sure hun i lost most of my weight after about a week or two. Not sure whether it is due to breastfeeding or the fact i have always been very slim

when i was expressing i expressed loads and it didn't do a thing for me! i am not sure if the baby has to be latched on for the weight loss thing to happen but i can confirm i didn't shift a pound from it!

I have figured out I have to eat 2000 calories a day to lose weight and BF. That's up from 1200! I wasn't losing any weight, so I started counting my calories and eating more and I lost 2 lbs. in one week! When you are nursing though, they advise you to only lose 1 lbs. a week.

I currently eat a bit more than I used to before I was pregnant (put on tons of weight during pregnancy, like 3 stone!) I lost a fair bit initially, but the weight has really dropped off me these last couple of months. I put it all down to breastfeeding as I eat more and exercise less than I did pre-pregnancy yet I'm smaller than I was.

I lost my weight quickly, but didn't gain much while pregnant. So I think that probably has more to do with it for me, than BFing. I know I am eating way more than ever, and not gaining weight. I also drink loads of water 3-4 liters a day.

I weighed myself on day 5 and I was 2lbs lighter than when I first found out I was pregnant. I put on about a stone in total whilst I was pregnant. I havnt lost anything else and Im totally breastfeeding.

I'm breast feeding and I'm still huge. I know I don't over eat, sometimes I wonder if I eat enough. I was probably 5 or 10 pounds overweight when I got pregnant and during pregnancy I packed on the pounds, Now I'm trying to lose it all. Whoever said breastfeeding works miracles, well, it isn't working any miracles for me. :hissy: I've always struggled with my weight though, I think it's genetic.

You've got to give it time hun, it's 9 months on and 9 months off.
