Brides With No Date!

I thought it would be good if all the brides-to-be with no date could have a little chat in one place intill the day's set.

Me & OH were discussing dates a little while ago but sadly his mum passed away so a wedding has been a lesser priority if that makes sense.

So I thought we could all keep each other up to date on things and give tips and ideas to each other for when the day IS set

Missmouse, are you waiting to find a venue before setting a date?! that's what we were doing, but I figured if we had a date we had something to 'work towards' iykwim?! So we agreed our date last night

We got engaged last February and then I fell pregnant and had our LO in May so that was a slight delay in things, then of course his mum passing now I think he would feel a bit strange getting married without his mum there iykwim? His always been a mummy's boy lol.

We had looked at a few venues previously and decided that we were being a bit too optimistic so we started looking a bit more locally and a little less costly. I've been (secretly) looking at dresses and colour schemes and centre pieces (yes.. Centre pieces.. I know. how sad is that lmao) but I don't want to push anything just yet..My main aim is just to set a year at the moment. And then I'll be half way there

Have you made any plans thus far or are you holding off intill baby arrives? (congratulations by the way! )

Ahhhh you can still join!! I'll change the name of the thread to "Brides with no dates & Brides who have only just set dates"

Yeah I've been thinking we should perhaps set a date before going for venue etc but then I had a panic like what if there's nothing available for the day you've set? I know its very unlikely but knowing the luck I have all I'd have is a date.. An nothing else

Well we had talked about september/ October, but in a couple of years time to allow us to save. With LO due, all our time (and money) were going into baby things and getting the nursery ready etc. Now that we're sort of organised, we've started thinking weddingy again.... so we've only just started going to see a couple of venues etc. We were talking about sept 2012, but with the places we've seen they're saying that they wont hold prices til then, and to assume an increase of 10%... so we're trying to decide if we could push into next year instead... seems daft to spend longer saving if all we're doing is paying extra for inflation

I totally get what you mean about your OH's mum.... I'm lucky that I have both my parents, but I lost 2 grandparents just over a year ago when my sis was just planning her wedding and it was sad and they were very much missed on the day..... without getting too morbid, makes you realise that people wont always be around forever, so it's making me think a wee bit along the lines of 'why put off til tomorrow..' iykwim?

Only thing now is that I want to avoid getting married on LO's birthday, so will probably wait until he's here to actually pick properly.

hahaha - I love that you're head is into centre pieces already! It's funny the things you get caught up in! My big thing is venues for the moment, although my crazy other fixation at the moment is favours!? Of all the things eh!?

KInd of feels like the date and venue go together and until I have those 2 things sussed, I can't seriously get on with thinking about anything else. ..... dress I'm not even THINKING about until I've had bubs and had a crack at losing some baby weight!

We've been discussing years the last couple of day's we're thinking 2012/13. Don't have a month or anything.Just a year lol. I quite like the idea of a summer wedding! Although with the weather we've had lately I don't think there is such a thing anymore lol. We also have a saving problem. We have money coming in but the problem we have is that we're sh*t with money .

Yeah I know exactly what you mean about people not being about for ever. I think the whole situation has made me realise that lifes too short to sit around waiting for things to happen. You've just got to get on with it.

OH wants to wait intill LO can walk but I don't see what difference that will make lol. She's going to be there either way iykwim so I can't see why it matters if she's walking/crawling or just rolling

Tbh I haven't really thought about the big things like venue etc. I seem to be spending more time on the smaller things like for example the centre pieces, I know exactly what I want and how I want them to look like! I can't wait to get making them lol. I'm quite lucky in the sense that after I had DD I was straight back into my own jeans lol. I think when it comes to dresses though I'll get it a size bigger so I can get it adjusted if need be. I wouldn't wanna get the size I am normally to find it's too small!!!

Well, we're going to see a place tomorrow.... so if we like it, we might start seriouslytrying to choose a date... we're rubbish with money too - it burns a hole, so figured that we could set a date for 2020 if we wanted and we'd still end up scraping the money together that year lol. That's why we're thinking we should just get on with it and then it HAS to be paid.

Originally thought if 2012 then our LO could be a cutesy page boy since he'd be 2, but if we do go with next year, then he wont even be walking, but I don't think it'll really make that much difference - he'll still be there.

I'm scared to start thinking about the little things, cos then I'd end up going out and buying them and then probably changing my mind nearer the time! haha!

That's my thinking! Just book it an then we HAVE to pay it. You always find a way when you know it needs doing but OH is like "No. We need to sensible and wait intill we've saved the money".. Which is all well and good but now I'm racking my brains for things to do to earn extra money and none of my ideas are realistic

That's what I'm doing now!. Looking at the smaller things an deciding on the spot that I HAVE to have what I'm looking at. I'm turning in to bridezilla LOL. And then getting stroppy when I decided I don't NEED to buy anything NOW if that makes sense lol.

A problem we have though is that my dad's mum passed away years ago so of course she won't be there but I really want my mum's mum there but she lives in scotland and she will not leave scotland for love nor money and we looked into it and getting married up there would be so expensive for us buy the time we got there and arranged for everyone we want to be there to be there iykwim.? All my other family would come down (aunties,uncles,cousins etc) but just not my nan! =[

I don't think there is a certain age they have to be before they can be a bridesmaid! I think it's just when mums happy for them to be. I'm pretty sure you're DD could be a bridesmaid at 3 weeks if you wanted it would just mean that she couldn't walk down the aisle lol.

My OH wants to wait intill our DD can walk but I don't really see any point she's going to be there either way! Have you got a year or anything in mind?

I agree with that, don't think I would be that bothered that she wouldn't be able to walk down the aisle as long as she's there one of my friends that's really good with her could look after her no problem
I would really love to get married this year but my OH wants to wait until next year

OH says it'll prob be better to wait until summer next year rather than having a winter wedding. What's wrong with a wedding in September, October, November or December

hi girls can i join in.
Oh hasnt proposed as of yet but has said he wants to get married next year. we are just trying to tidy up the flat first then get married after. He says i will get a proposal during xmas time so that will be my xmas present but i dont mind.
I have been looking at venues and havent got a clue where yet, to be honest i would settle with a registry office wedding then a meal with close family as we dont have a budget set and probably wont have a lot either.
This come as a shock to me because i never though oh wanted to get married or at least not any time soon xx hope everyone is ok x

Aw man, I dunno if we're getting married next Oct now or not... saw a place we loved at the weekend, but been having total hassles with the venue since so I've been put right off (full ranting details for anyone interested in a my thread called 'Gutted, what would you do!'
