Bumbo Seat Recall

Next thing you know, someone will sue McDonalds after they spill hot coffee on themselves. Oh, wait......

I was like you thinking that it was a frivolous lawsuit. Exactly what the defense attorney wanted us to believe. It is not. If I recalled correctly, McDonalds was warned several times not to make their coffee that hot. Eventually, someone was going to get burnt. And it happened to a senior lady. If you googled the burns, you'd ask yourself how hot that coffee must've been to do that kind of damage. The full story makes you kinda think twice.

Back to the topic at hand...

I almost bought a Bumbo for my LO too. But then I read all the warnings people were saying about it. Even with you there, the thing was just too dangerous for a baby. Really glad I didn't.

I read ages ago that the mcdonalds lawsuit lady was in the car and her son put the cup of coffee on the dashboard...hardly mcdonalds' fault. they actually have to have their coffee served above a certain temperature i think!!

People are far too eager to blame the product. If you are using them on a table or elevated surface you lack common sense. It is possible for babies to fracture their skulls from falling over from a bumboless seated position if the floor is hard. But you can't sue gravity and so far no one is recalling floors.

i totally agree with this. we only use our bumbo on the floor with the tray on and i put him against the settee or a chair so he couldn't tip back even if he tried. and i never leave the room while he is on it. but to me that is just common sense really. i wouldn't put him on the kitchen table on his back so why put him on it in a bumbo?

Thank you for posting this. I don't use our Bumbo much 'cos it really bothers me when she arches her back whilst in it. I'm not so worried about her hitting her head because she generally only uses it on a rug in our living room. But I am always concerned about her hurting her spine when she does it. Usually she does it when she's fed up with sitting in it though, so she gets taken out straight away.

I will consider emailing the address given for people outside of the USA/Canada though, if the restraint is free I see no reason to say "no" to trying it out :)

I do agree though, people using these on an elevated surface need their heads examined.

I've just bought one but I would never leave Johnny on a raised surface, who does that? I think some parents have taken the bumbo 'babysitter' title a bit too serious xo

Loved the bumbo with both the boys and if I ever have another baby I will be using it again!

Common sense is all that is needed to use one safely. Don't use on a raised surface, don't use in the bath, don't leave baby unattended and if they are attempting to get out (arching their back or whatever other way) take them out instead of watching them do it til the fall out

The issue this time isn't people using them on a raised surface. It's that even on the floor there have been accidents.

Statistically though there are millions of bumbos and I think the case involved 21 injuries which is still a low figure.

I'll be trying to get the strap I think its a good idea although it does not seem as straight forwards to get it in the UK.

I used the bumbo a lot while weaning Holly and found it best with the tray.
