No worries, I never took it as trying to be converted, lol :) Sleep is definitely important for all of us, especially the babies, so whatever works for you, go for it  We've had a few rough nights, but overall, I think Emma's been pretty good at going to bed. For us it's just the nightwakings that have started in the past few weeks that are a problem but since Emma's doing a real feed when she wakes up but still settles quickly, I'm just going with the flow for now but starting a few of the ideas in the No Cry Sleep Solution (trying to introduce a lovey, use a sleep cue phrase, sleep cue music, and letting Emma play in her crib during the day). As much as I wish she would sleep through the night again soon, I'm trying to just enjoy the nighttime snuggles and remind myself that she's only going to be this age once- next time she keeps me up through the night, she'll probably be a teenager, out with her friends :haha:

Hope the move goes smoothly for you! I'm sure you'll find it to be a big change but change is fun  You can always move back north once hubby is done school, etc :winkwink:

well, we found out why harry was waking so much the other night.... last night he was up for over 2 hrs, screaming n nothing i did helped him. he was literally writhing in pain- we gave him teething powder, got his dummy out, turned on the star projector he likes, burped, changed etc, lots of hugs, pacing, rocking (he was refusing to feed), gave him gripe water, eventually gave in & gave him some calpol & some skin to skin time & he fell asleep on me at midnight & slept for a few hours back in is cotbed until about 5-30am...
Looked at his face & he had crusty stuff all over it... Turns out his ear (same one as last time back in february) had decided to explode & let out a ton of gunky crap- so it must've been that that was causing him so much pain, poor little boy.
Gave him some more calpol & he slept again till 10am & seems absolutely fine now today. Am gonna take him to the Drs tomorrow just in case he needs ear drop again, but I felt so guilty & upset that I couldn't help him.... :(
It seems like everytime we go swimming a lot (we went 3 times last weekend in Cornwall) he gets a bad ear  ???

anyways, how's everyone else?

My sisters little brother gets this every time he goes swimming .. he ended up with grommets.

Poor little Harry .. hope he's feeling better today. :hugs:

Flora - Poor Harry. I hope he's doing better today. I bet it must have been a relief for him that his ear finally let the gunk out. When I was small I used to get ear infections. When I was at boarding school the school Dr gave matron some ear drops that I could have for before and after I went swimming or had a bath to get rid of any nasties. Might be worth speaking to the Dr about it to see if you can get some kind of preventitive measure for him.:hugs:

Well, we've had a nice day. We were up early - 6am again - so it looks like the semi-lie-ins of the last few days are over lol. I think it's because the CC is no longer wearing him out lol. We did a few jobs (the house is a tip but I just can't get into the housework....we're moving in 6 weeks, why should I lol ) and then sent hubby off to work. Earl had his nap and when he got up we went to the local playpark. He wasn't overly enamoured by it but he did actually smile a little bit and was battering the bars and chain in the same way he does when he's in his chair or highchair so he must have been comfy. We've said we'll go back once a month or so and try him out until he starts to like it, then we'll go once a week at least. Every person we know has a swingset in their garden.....there's a perfectly good swingset, slide and roudabout in the village and they're virtually unused! My Avatar is from this morning....gotta love the Orange shoes! lol

Earl had a 2 hour nap this afternoon. 1 hour in his cot, he woke up and then fell asleep within 2 minutes of being on the sofa, so I tucked him up and left him to it while I watched the GP and he didn't wake up until the last lap....blooming typical. However, when I put him down initially he went straight to sleep. no crying or even grumbling. I went in after 1 minute and he was gone! I'm so pleased with him, although I don't think our PB can get much better than that lol.

Anyhoo's, got a few more bits and bats to do before hubby gets home. I want to get at least 1 box packed today....not sure how successful that venture will be but we'll give it a darned good go! :haha:

Have a nice rest of your sunday ladies xx

Good afternoon all,

Hows everyones weekend?
I've actually had a fab weekend, went and stayed at my mum and dads house on Friday night with just Theo, Grace stayed at home with daddy...so I had a little break as my mum and dad take over when Theo is there lol, they love him to bits...my mum even got up with him in the morning to give him his breakfast !
Saturday day time I went to the Trafford centre (huge shopping centre) with my parents, got some nice white (:dohh:) combat pants and some sandals! Had a nice coffee and cake and spent some good quality time with them both, it sounds awful, but when Grace is there we don't get to talk or go shopping etc as she gets bored easily...so it was nice to have that time!

Today i've been napping on and off all day :haha: i'm sooo tired! Doesn't help that I didn't goto bed last night till 1:30am!! Luckily OH has been looking after the kids, hes gone to watch the big important football matches now though, so i've had my coffee and i'm just about ready to tackle the rest of the afternoon, deff need an early night tonight!!

Happy mothers day to the USA girlies!! Hope you all have a nice day

Flora - Awwww, poor little Harry! Hope his ear is better soon :hugs:

Aimee - Good luck with packing! Glad to hear that Earl is sleeping better now, sounds exactly the same as Theo since we started the CC, he didn't murmur once last night when we put him down :happydance: just talked to his lightshow for a while then found his dummy again and fell asleep! Very proud of him :D. Glad Earl liked the park

Kaites - Hope the No Cry Sleep solution works for you :flower:

Better go, little man has woken up!
x

Good afternoon!

Hope everyone is having a good day :) Happy Mother's Day to the North American Mamas :) Hubby made me breakfast this morning- I stuffed myself with fresh baked croissants :cloud9: Hubby finished work early yesterday so he took Emma out to do some shopping and they came home with a "mother's day" coral for the saltwater tank (hmm- some how I don't really think he bought it with me in mind, but anyway) and a plant for the garden. I prefer cut flowers, but I think it'll be special that my "first mother's day plant" will come up year after year in our garden- as long as I don't accidentally kill it like most of the other plants in my care :haha: He also bought us a small pool for the backyard- it's only 12' across and 2.5' deep but it'll be fun for the summer. Emma also dropped a night feed and slept great last night  Too bad I still woke up expecting her to want some cuddles :dohh: Only hiccup to my awesome mother's day is that we are set to see MIL later this afternoon but it should just be a short visit. I got an email from my mum this morning saying that they might get stuck in London since that stupid volcano has spit more ash- oh well, the bright side is that I might have their car a little longer :haha:

Flora- poor Harry! :hugs: When I was backpacking through Asia, my best friend was plagued with ear infections and one of the doctors suggested she rinse her ear with sterile saline after swimming and that seemed to help  You could always see if you could do something similar with Harry? When I was little and we spent a lot of time swimming in the lake, the doctor suggested doing the same with hydrogen peroxide but I gather that is quite drying and can cause other problems.

Aimee- Cute avatar pic- Earl looks so grown up in it! Hope the packing went well :)

Mellie- Sounds like a nice weekend! I love bringing Emma to my parents since they take her from me as soon as we walk through the door and I can just sit back and relax :)

Well, Emma should be waking from her nap soon so I better get out of my pjs (finally!) and ready to head out. Hope we're all well :hugs:

Afternoon all

Flora they do swim bands for over ears for babies, might be worth gettign one.

Well we popped upto mamas and papas today and bought a few bits then went out for a carvery lunch, stopped off on way home to watch some paragliders.

maffie, yeah I've seen those neoprene swimming ear head band thingies on a couple of toddlers before. I'll ask OH if they sell them where he used to work. My bro had grommits coz of poor hearing & persistent infections- apparently it's very common from what I've googled today. I'm gonna speak with the Dr tomorrow n see what they say (IF I can get an appointment that is :dohh: )coz I feel bad that he gets poorly from something he enjoys doing sooo much! He's slept loads today but otherwise seems ok in himself. Hopefully it wont affect him so much tonight.

Evening ladies. I am househunting atm. Saw 2 properties on Saturday and boy were they awful. Its such a shame they never look like the pictures! Off to see another place tomorrow evening and got another viewing booked for Tuesday evening. Need to make phone calls tomorrow to hopefully book some more viewings. Im hoping the one tomorrow is as nice as it looks cos it seems perfect (so I'm expecting it will be dreadful lol).

Morning all

LK hope the house viewing goes well, its disappointing when pics make houses look so much better than they really are.

Flora how is Harry's ear today?

Im a bit rough this morning, had some hot wings last nigt and they've upset my tummy. Hope it clears soon I need to clean up. Our microwave oven knocked all our electrics off this weekend too so OH ordered anew one last night. I was so tired I just let him choose it I only have a vague recollection of what we are getting :haha:

Morning ladies

Kaites: Sleeping wise, Chloe did this to me a week or so ago although I put it down to a growth spurt I think it was more likely a tooth as I was bitten for the very first time yesterday! Thankfully her sleep has returned to a more normal pattern so I hope Emma's returns to normal again for you soon :flower:

Chloe was up past her normal bed time last night but I put that down to her being out of a normal routine, didn't leave Nij's parents house until 7 and she is normally settling down between then and 7.30 so the nap in the car completely threw her; I tired to not wake her up getting her out of the car but to no avail! Eventually I just popped her into the travel cot and she scratched away at the sides for a bit until she drifted off. I don't know how as the scratching noise was such a racket!

Flora: Hope Harry is better now :flower:

Aimee: I like the swing picture! Good luck with the packing! Shame we never got to do that northern Bumpkins meet in the end eh!

LK: Good luck with the house hunting, nothing worse than seeing somewhere perfect and it not working out. :flower:

Maffie: A mini surprise when it arrives then! Hope you feel better soon :flower:

Well I feel I have been none stop this weekend but it has been nice. Saw Nij for a bit as planned on Sat and Sun. Sat evening went to my parents and my Mum made us a lovely meal, home made fish and chips - super yummy. Stayed over and then set off in the morning. Chloe had a lovely time playing with her Nanna and Grandad. Then Sun afternoon I went to take Chloe to see Nij's Mum and Dad for a few hours so she had a good play and showed off her many new talents since they last saw her. Then it was home and get ready for today :)

Wow quiet day in here! How are we all?

Chloe is loving to try and stand at the moment, she hates being on her front so I was wondering how she will become mobile but I have attached some pics, think she is going to be a shuffle bum as she did this totally by herself! You can see by looking at the rug in the background (I moved the cushions once I saw she had moved!)

Evening girls. How is everyone? I had a completely pants day, was late leaving work and ended up missing the viewing so OH and my mum viewed it. It wasn't great so we have 2 more to see tomorrow evening. James was so funny this evening. He was on his hands and knees and going forward on his knees, then diving forward to get forwards cos he couldnt figure out that he needed to move his hands forward as well as his knees! Worked pretty well though lol.

Morning lovely ladies. I'm working, Monty's yelling, and OH is trying to get Monty to sleep ;-) Check out my thread re this https://www.babyandbump.com/baby-cl...ly-hard-get-sleep-6-5-months.html#post5342445

Apart from that, all is good here. The sun is shining and we had a lovely weekend with OH's parents visiting. OH was going to take Monty to Teddy Bears Club (our village parents and tots group) this morning, but it starts in 25 minutes and he hasn't had a morning nap yet (due to aforementioned problem), so think that may now be out of the question.

Oh, big thing for me - I had my first night out on Friday since Monty was born. Only went for dinner at local pub with my postnatal group girls - and even then it was only a main course, no alcohol as I was driving, and I was home before 10 - but it felt great to put on a non-breastfeeding dress, LOL.

Happy Tuesday, girls xx

Hi colsy, I have replied to your thread :flower:

Nigh out sounds good, think its nice to get a bit of 'me / 'you'' time back - feel normal again. Its lovely being a Mum but nice to be able to just be who you are and switch off for a bit.

xx

Good morning!

Hope everyone is well :) Not too much new here- we finally got out for a bike ride yesterday, towing Emma in the bicycle trailer. It went surprisingly well. I was expecting Emma to cry and fuss the whole time since she didn't like wearing her helmet when I tried it on her in the house, but when she was in the bike trailer, she was good as gold. I think it helped that she discovered she could chew on the excess strap that was hanging down from the chin strap. I could hear her chatting away to herself the whole way back home from the park. If we go cycling often, it'll whip me into shape in no time- it was hard work pulling her behind me!

I'm probably jinxing myself by saying this, but her sleeping seems to be getting back to normal too and she slept 7 hrs straight last night

Kte- That's cool that Chloe is figuring out ways to move around the room :) I think Emma's gonna be a bum scooter too since she absolutely hates being on her front too. She has done a little bit of scooting, reaching for toys but no great distances yet :) Emma does that scratching on the mesh of the travel cot too! It's always a sign that she's not going to settle in there for us though.

LK- hope the househunting goes well :flower:

Colsy- no advice re:sleeping since we've been battling nightwakings as of late too. I've just been following some of the No Cry Sleep Solution ideas, but I bet you're already doing similar stuff. That's nice that you had a baby-free night out :) I still haven't done that yet- been on dates with hubby but no solo girls nights yet. I'm not brave enough to mess with her nighttime routine at the moment!

Well, I better get going- my parents arrived home last night and are swinging by this afternoon with gifts for Emma so I better tidy up a bit. I may have inadvertently invited my aunt and uncle to stay with us this weekend too, so I have a major clean up to start on if they are staying in the guest room since it's currently littered with all my half-finished sewing projects. Hope everyone is well!

harry's doing ok- he ear is still a bit icky, but he doesn't seem in the slightest bit bothered by it, so i think the 'blow out' must've been pretty much it, so unless it's bothering him, I'm leaving it for now & seeing how it goes.

we had a bit of a breakthru on the solids yesterday. I gave him red pepper, cucumber & some dairylea bread soldiers & he devoured the lot- a 1st- and was banging the tray like he wanted more!!! I then booby fed him & he slept for over 2 hrs during the day, which is also a 1st in a long time too, so yay! :)

OH is in Hull for a couple fo days working... feeling a bit lonely today :(

Aimee, just a quick note for your OH, Suunto are no longer maing the Gekko- they've replaced it with the Zoop, which is the same, but downloadable. I am also the proud owner now of a pink D4 (I dont even dive, lol) from the Suunto tech guys, hehe- they said as a wifey, i need to look the part!!!! :)

Colsy- harry is like swings n roundabouts when it comes to sleep. Soemtimes he sleeps right thru, no probs, other nights he's impossible & is awake every 1.5-2hrs & it's exhausting. I think with him it's related to wind, pain, wet/dirty nappies, over tiredness from the day, too hot/cold, hunger sometimes & my darling hubby who thuds like an elephant when he gets up & hasn't learned how to open or close doors without clanging & banging them!!! Grrrrrr.

Well, in the end we took Kte's advice (thanks, Kte!) and OH took Monty to parents and tots group, despite Monty having not had his morning nap. When they came home, Monty was STILL wide awake and not too grizzly, which I would have thought he would be. Then an absolute first for us happened - he fell asleep in his blow-up ring thing. He NEVER falls asleep unless he is in his hammock, carseat or baby backpack, so he was obviously ridiculously tired. Anyway, OH carried him upstairs and he slept for a full ... wait for it ... 40 minutes. Ho hum, by that point he should have been doing about three hours, so we weren't v impressed. Up we get, all bright and breezy again, so we have lunch - rice cakes, melon, red Leicester and pear. He thoroughly enjoyed the lot. Then a massive BF on both sides and then zonked out in his hammock for an hour and a half. Still not really had anywhere near his usual amount of sleep, but he's been quite happy considering. OH has now gone out with Monty in the baby backpack, so I am guessing he may well sleep in there.

Now, this must all be tied in with the great difficulty I've had putting Monty down at night for the past few days or week or so. Also, we had a bad night in terms of number of feeds last night - waking for BF at 11, 2 and 5. Gotta be a connection I guess.

I'm a bit gutted because I was soooo impressed at how we were in a fab routine with naps now. I don't mean a regimented routine but more a rough schedule, so I would always know roughly what was going on. But I wonder if this is now the start of a big upset and now it's all going to change again?

I don't mind him not napping providing he stays happy during the day. It's just sometimes he gets really quiet and/or grumpy if he hasn't sleep enough, which then means we end up having days where we don't do much interesting, which then makes Monty bored ... and vicious circle.

Anyway, I'm no doubt blowing everything out of proportion and this is just a blip and next week we'll be back to normal, so enough of me whinging.

By the way, do any of you use a toy library? Just wondering how they work, as I've found a local one but haven't got any info on it yet.

Toodlepip x

Evening all, had an eventual few days back and forth to hospital, they suspected a ectopic but looks like a cyst ruptured.

Noah is teething badly, lots of upset and crying. He's moved his morning feed to 4am too, thankfully he normally goes back down till 7am

Maffie - I hope that you are ok. :hugs:

Colsy - sympathies with the sleep. As you know I've had to use CC to get Earl's sleep back on track. Apparently their sleep patterns change to a more grown up style at around 6 months and it can mean that any work you've done can very quickly be undone. It's also around now that habits start to form in behavioural terms so it's best to act quickly if anything unsavoury is happening you want to change. I hope that things settle down for you soon :hugs:

Flora - Thanks...Hubby is absolutely smitten with his Gekko but I'm sure that a Zoop will be on his shopping list. He had mentioned something about it but to be honest, while I do dive occasionally (have my PADI OW qual) he's far far more into it than I am - He's getting a new weight belt for father's day! lol

Earl is back on 2 night feeds, has dropped his bedtime bottle (preferring to have a milk topup before his bath instead) and has decided that he's much happier being spoon fed than he is doing it himself (lazy little sod!) I thought it was meant to be the opposite direction that you move in after 6 months.

I am feeling great today though....I picked up my prescription as I ran out of my pills over the weekend and I feel one heck of a lot better. Who would have thought that 1 little hormone can make such a difference. Hubby also let me lie in this morning (first time since Earl was about 2 months old). It was only til 8 but seeing as I was up at 2 for a feed it was much appreciated to get that extra hour and a bit. I have afeeling though that hubby will be laying it on thick just how tired he is tonight. Omelettes for tea though, then an early night me thinks.

Right, best be off. Got to pack away all the books from the shelves around the house this evening. I've so far managed to apck away all of Earl's old stuff that he's grown out of. There's 3 boxes (nappy boxes) and 2 moses baskets full of clothes!! There is also his baby bath full of maternity clothes! It's amazing how much stuff you can accumulate. Tomorrow I've got to dig out all the christmas decorations and theentire contents of the cupbaord under the stairs, as well as at some point sort out the utility room and clean all of hubby's home brew gear. Lord knows when I'll be able to do this......Earl refuses to let me do anything for more than 15 mins, which is fine for day to day stuff but for a good sort out :dohh: Looks like I'll be up late then next few night! Tonight though.....SLEEP!! lol

Have a nice evening ladies. Looks like we'll have a new PM by the end of tonight too!
