Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

i was amazed at how soon Tommys fell off, everything iv read sez they should between 1 and 5 weeks, he was only 5 days!!
I love seeing his name written down all officially XD XD xx

Got Harry registered today & also booked the registrar for my wedding in april... was so cool making it all official & stuff :)
Then went into town to start the search for mortgages & house hunting etc, but was a little bit disappointed as there seems to be nothing on the market anymore less than 200k, which we defo can't afford. :dohh: Came home, went online & did manage to find some 3 bed houses in our range... OH sent them to his mum, who then started a rant via his email saying we are aiming to high, too big etc etc.... I want to shoot her!!!! I hate that she thinks she has a say in what house we buy- this is our life choice, not hers & OH is too much of a wuss to tell her to butt out, whereas with my mum, I'd quite happily tell her to f-off, (in the nicest way, of course) lol & she would, haha!
anyway, made it to 10 days breast feeding too, so I'm kinda proud of that as I didn't think I'd make it past 3! Thye say the first month is the hardest- I for one am taking it day by day.

Anyways, how is everyone else?????????

Im nearly with you on BFing for 10 days, im so suprised at how well its gone! I really love doing it, i fel so close to Tommy and i can already see that hes growing! He's getting podgy little cheeks! XDi feel so proud that hes growing so well.
Your MIL has no right to say where u should live, its up to you what home you want to provide for your family. Just nod, smile and then make ur own decision :D
xxx

I agree with the nodding & smiling.... then fuming inside, lol. :)

Hey girlies,

Hope all the Mummies, Daddies and Bumpkins are doing well! :)

We just had our second health visitor visit, and Romilly has put on 7oz in a week! She's such a clever girl :D This has helped a little bit with my guilt about having to stop BFing, as she's obviously thriving. I still wish that it had worked out... but hey, water under the bridge. Romilly has a tiny bit of oral thrush, but that's apparently really common, and we're getting drops to treat it :)

Our health visitor is such an absolute honey, we both really like her. Which is fab, as I was expecting the same kind of nightmare we had with the midwives in my NHS area (who were the reason why I moved my antenatal care to Glasgow!). I found out today that it's our hv who will be doing the baby clinic at my health centre, so we'll be able to keep on seeing her too, which is fabby!

Romilly's just gone down for a nap, so I'm going to head off and try to get some housework done  Look forward to hearing how everyone else is doing :D

Hiya peeps

Well Sienna is now official as we went and registered her this morning :)

Eala: fab stuff with the weight gain hun, Romilly sounds like a little star.. I am seeing MW tomorrow for our last appointment where she will discharge us and pass our care to the HV.. I know what you mean about the guilt totally hun, i am still beating myself up sometimes... Its silly really as i can see in Sienna's cheeks/thighs etc that she is gaining weight well and she is always so content..

Right well its almost time for bum change, bottle and cuddles for Miss Sienna so i will catch you all soon .. Hugs from me and sloppy kisses from her x

We registered Harry on friday. Also got told that when we get married in April, we will have to re-register him or he wont be considered 'legitimate'- stupid ancient laws, lol.
Got MW app tomorrow afternoon- hoping Harry is finally above his birth weight so we can be discharged to HV care instead of MW care... Finger's crossed! (He was 6.9 at birth, then at 5 days was 6.3 & at 10 days was 6.7, so I reckon he should be at least at or above his birth weight by tomorrow)
:hugs: to everyone & their babies :)

Tommy never lost any weight after he was born. I found it rlly weird coz every1 kept warning me that he would and not to be 2 worried but at the 5 day weighing hed put on just under half a pound and at 10 days hed gone from 6lb 12oz to 7lb 8oz. The HV was well impressed, and she was rlly suprised when she realised i was breastfeeding lol. I was worried im over feeding him but iv been assured that its not possible to overfeed them at this age. I ddnt think it was but having bin told hed lose weight plus the suprise of the HV worried me.
I find im worried about everything tho! Lyk he got some spots on his face which i was told afterwards is totally normal, but i was sooooo worried. I kept pressing them to check they disappeared with pressure. Im so paranoid lol. Hes getting really aware of things tho, its brilliant watching him staring round the room and hes actually focusing on things XD
Every day its amazing watching him change and develop - i love it!! xxx

We havent even seen our HV yet!! Bit pissed off as im having issues with sams feeding/winding. Ended up calling my mw this morning who has said it just sounds like bad trapped wind. He's soooo hard to get any wind out of him - tried sitting up patting/rubbing his back, propped over my shoulder and on his front on my knees rocking side to side. He's been sick 4/5 times cos his milk is sitting on top of it :( I know 4/5 times don't sound alot compared to the amount of feeds he has but it's full on projectile sick and loads of it! Its not immediate either its about 30-45 minutes after feeding, this makes me scared to put him down to sleep incase he's sick that much in his sleep
Just started using infacol but he was sick with it last night and it only brings up his wind after about 2oz then nothing more comes out. Some feeds he's only taking 2oz so im worrying he's not getting enough. Will soon see tomorrow, he was 8lb 1oz at birth, then 5 days he was 7lb 13oz. Sorry for rambling on.

Jo - :hugs: Have you tried stopping mid-feed to wind him? He might not really be happy about it, but it's a tip our hv gave us for Romilly. She was really hard to wind, and like Sam, was ending up bringing milk back up. We started winding her mid-feed yesterday, and it has really helped in terms of settling her. It's worth noting that the Infacol can take about 48 hours before it'll start working, so try and stick with it :hugs: If it's really not for him, there are other things you can get, like Colocynth granules and so on - your HV (if you ever get to see her!) should be able to recommend some.

Also, try pedalling his legs. Not like he was on a bike, both legs at the same time, but just gently sort of pumpthem up to his tummy and out again. If he resists you, just leave it, and try again another time. You can also try very gently massaging his tummy - in a sort of arc above his belly button (as if you were drawing the sun's path across the sky from sunrise to sunset). Not too hard, obviously :)

How often is Sam feeding? I'm only asking because Romilly rarely takes more than 2oz per feed, but she tends to only be 3 hours at most between bottles.

It's normal for babies to lose weight after they're born, so try not to worry about that 4oz - that's pretty much what Romilly lost too. She's since put it back on. I hope that Sam has done too when you get him weighed tomorrow.

Sorry for the long rambling post, just hope you find something to help with his wind soon :hugs:

Thanks Eala, MW suggested massaging his tummy gently too, so he was fed at 2.30 and just now with infacol and tummy massaging and he brought up wind only :happydance:
I had been trying to wind him mid feed but he was just screaming looking for the bottle again. If the massaging stops working i'll try the leg thing too :)

He's been waking every 4ish hours for a 4-5oz feed but middle of last week he was only going 2 hours between feeds and only having about 2oz.

I feel like a 1st time mum again cos it's been so long since chloe was a baby!!

Off to bath him now, only thing is i have to get in too cos i cant lean over the bath, i dont mind though cos he loves it in the bath with me :)

Harry still isn't above his birth weight... He was 6lbs 8oz today, so still another ounce to go... less than an ounce actually, like 20g off his birth weight, but they still wouldn't discharge him, so we have to go back when he's 20 days old to be re-weight etc... I now have to BF him every 2 hrs, regardless of whether he really wants it or not. At the mo, he only wants feeding every 3-4 hours, and feeds for about 20-40 mins each time... When he has my expressed milk, he only ever takes 2-3 ounces, before he refuses to take anymore.... Oh well, such is life, he seems happy & content, so I can't complain.

Eala, thanks for those winding tips- Harry too seems to not bring up wind very well, although he's only ever been sick about 4 or 5 times since he was born & farts like a trooper, lol! Guess he takes after his daddy on that front!!!

Kriskitten: I love it now Harry's a bit more alert. I love staring at him while he's sitting in his chair, staring around the lounge taking in his surroundings or playing with his hands & stuff. He fascinates me, hehehehe. )He probably thinks I'm weird keep looking at him all the time, lol.) I worry alot too; I keep thinking he's not breathing coz i can't always see his chest move & he's so still it freaks me out!

We went & looked at some houses today; was so much fun imagining living in these houses & planning what Harry's room will look like & stuff. All the houses were actually crap, but it was still good to see them & helped us decide a bit better what we want from our first proper non-rented house. I cannot wait to be out of our place- as lovely as it is, I just want something that belongs to us & that we can decorate to our tastes & have a real home for Harry with a slide & climbing frame in the garden... (yeah, i'm that sad, lol) Any tips for a first time buyer ladies??????

I worry alot too; I keep thinking he's not breathing coz i can't always see his chest move & he's so still it freaks me out!

lol im like that too - think every mum is with their newborn. if i cant see his chest moving at night i put the light on my phone and shine it at him just to check - he probably gets pissed right off with me shining a light at him when he's trying to sleep.

lol, I might try that one- I've been poking him with my index finger- a light in his face seems a bit more dignified, lol!!!!

lol actually my OH is worse with the checking hes breathing thing than me! And with the noises he makes. Earlier we went on a proper outing down the high street withhim for the first time, was lovely coz OH loves pushing the pram and i find it so cute watching him playing with the blankets round tommy and feeling his cheek to check hes warm enough. I think its coz hes rlly not a baby person so its quite special how sweet he is with Tommy. But he came pushing the pram up to me rlly panicked in Sainsburys asking me to check Tommy was breathing coz he was bare still and he couldnt feel his chest moving. I got him to feel his tummy which was going fine and touched his cheek and he started pouting and playing with his lips. I think he felt a bit silly coz he walked off looking bashful but i found it so cute lol
i bought him a steak bake after to cheer him up and calm his nerves lol =]

Hi ladies! Just found the thread and thought I would say hi while Brady is asleep.

I still find it hard to beleive that he's finally here, and I cant leave him for 10 minutes without checking that he's still breathing!

Just waiting for the MW to come, it should be her last visit today. When he was weighed the other day he had gone down to 8lb 1oz from 8lb 6oz which isn't too bad.

I've had to switch to bottle feeding as well :( I'm still trying not to feel guilty about it. I knew with the gestational diabetes there was the chance that his blood sugars would be too low, but I think I assumed that because I had controlled it so well that he would be ok but he had to be given formula after he was born because they were too low and then he refused to eat anything for another 14 hours and he just wasn't getting enough to stablise his sugars from me. He's very content now with his bottle which is the main thing though and the MW was good, I thought she would keep wanting me to try but she was just like 'that's ok' and actually asked if I had any questions about formula feeding.

Brady seems to be having some trouble pooing though, he seems like he's really straining and when he went yesterday and the day before it seemed quite solid. I'm measuring the formula right so I wonder if he's still a little dehydrated?

aww, Kris, that's so cute- and it's lovely to hear that your OH is so interested; a lot of young dads (or dads in general, tbh!) either have no interest, or would have long scarpered! My OH is brilliant, but i feel a bit bad for my sister- she has 2 little boys who's dad buggered off & left her on her own & she's had to raise them with no family (expect me) near by & her ex shows no interest in the kids at all, other than random phone calls & grand empty gestures at xmas & birthdays... Sometimes I feel like I'm rubbing it in her face when me, my OH & Harry are with them like a big happy family...... iykwim?

Well, today, my OH went back to work, so it's my first day looking after Harry solo. So far, so good. If he's still alive & unscathed by this time tomorrow I will be a happy mummy, !!! OH buggers off to Birmingham tomorrow for 5 days so I'll be totally on my own, which is scary as hell, but hopefully I'll muddle my way through!!!

How is everyone else doing? :)

Dom- my sis was told to give a couple of ounces of cooled boiled water when her LO was having 'solid' poos & a bit constipated; after 2 days, everything was back to normal again. She also massaged his tummy a little bit while cuddling him to get him to relax enough to not have to strain. Dunno if that will help Brady, but thought I'd share, lol.

We had HV today, she was really nice. She did the newborn hearing test on Sam and said his hearing is perfect. She also weighed him and he's gone from 7lb 13oz on 13/10 to 8lb 8oz today. So she was really happy with his weight gain :)

Had another unsettled night last night, he took his bottle ok took a while to wind as normal then fell asleep so when i put him down in his crib he stayed for about 10 minutes then started crying till i picked him up, his crib glides too and he wouldnt even settle when i was moving it. I was just so tired i was scared id fall asleep holding him.

:hugs: to Jo79. I have yet to experience that honour! So far, Harry sleeps pretty well & doesn't mind being put down so long as he's swaddled. (if he aint saddled, he takes huge chunks out of his face- he seems to like grabbin his cheeks & trying to choke himself with his fist, lol)

Tommy is 2 weeks today!!
woooop! :happydance::happydance:
Yeh, i feel so lucky to have my OH. I have to remind myself he is good really lol coz he does manage to b a pain in the backside so much of the time lol
Tommy looks so much like him tho! Specially when he was first born, he was the spit of Cav. Iv seen baby pictures of him as a baby and i swear its the same baby!
Florabean that must be so scary! OH has his first day at work tomoro so im on my own for longer than a cuple hours for the first time! Rlly nervous but kinda excited too, Tommy is a proper little angel so hopefully shouldnt be a problem. Be nice to have some proper long cuddles without lectures about spoiling him! Lol they all mean well and maybe i am spoiling him atm but if it causes trouble later then as far as im concerned its worth the trouble. I just love cuddeling him and i wont get another chance while hes so little!
I love his facial expressions, he keeps pulling smiley faces and pouting.
I cant wait to get a proper smile with meaning XD
Hope everyones doing ok xxxxx
