i've been doing a bit of researching today  i've only ever done simply decorations never anything great, and i was wondering...

how do you colour ready to roll icing or do you buy it coloured or make it yourselves?

also, where do you find the best place to buy all equipment, we're off to asda's tomorrow, but doubt it will have lots of different things, was thinking lakeland? xx

Hi ya hun, I buy fondant or sugar paste as you can get it in different colours. Unfortunately you cant get it from normal places like asda but professional cake suppliers..I think you can only get straight forward plain white fondant from most supermarkets please correct me if Im wrong someone. I have bookmarks down to my toes, but here are a couple.. x x x

have been asked a few times! i contacted a few courier services and they said they wouldnt do it, so it would have to be by royal mail, I bought everything I was going to need to package them up and sent them to myself and they were totally destroyed!
and that was just travelling within my town!

The ones with fondant icing post best but getting the buttercream ones there perfect is another matter!

I have now got some plastic tumblers and will be trying that next, will let you know how i get on!

amazing andrea! always! you are sooooooo talented! don't give in mrs!!

well this morning i have baked a nice old Victoria sponge, it's just cooling on the side :happydance: i've done it over two tin's so i can put jam and icing in the middle and then later i shall ice the top :D i think my 'issue' is not the baking of the cake, which i've always done just fine (must to the disgust of james' and mum's waist line ) but it's the icing, i no i'm going to end up in disaster-ville  i'm not very arty!! but hoping it will turn out ok!

and a couple of quick questions from me...
how long to you cool your sponge before taking it out of the tins? i've got it straight out and took the outer bit of the tin (if that makes sense) but it's still on the base!

oh and FAO eternal rose - asda had loads of ready to roll icing and i found the ready down piping icing for the time being, but no coloured icing... so a internet order me thinks today :D

I leave them in the tin until they're completely cool (the tins) then transfer to a wire rack. I've had a few disasters where my cake has totally crumbled when I've tried to take it out. Actually amelies bday cake did this last night but I managed to piece it together again LOL

i always use bake easy spray for my cakes and they come out of the tins perfect every time!

wow andrea there fab!! where did u get the mini candy canes??

i always have to colour my butter cream because it always look s yellow not white :duh:

me and lou (lollylou1) made rainbow cakes on new years day they were yummy!!!!

I made cupcakes :happydance: They are marshmallow ones and they look so yummy but i feel sick now
