Im going to have a bash at making Brookes birthday cake myself, ive scrapped the idea of a giant cupcake anw now want to make a cartoon character one but ... im a complete novice when it comes to this kind of cake making

Whats the best way to ice something like that? Any tips or recommendations?

If you are going for a cake like this.......

then you want fondant icing which you can colour and use different shapes to form different section. Fondant icing will give you that smooth finish.

If you want to make characters like so...

then you need royal icing to form shapes.

You can buy all sorts of cake decorating stuff online....I made one last year for my nephew...the tigger on top is made of marzipan I bought it on ebay! The little decs on top were from tesco and the tiggers on the side are plastic toys. I just bought lots of food colouring and made the flowers myself! Was quite easy but time consuming! Good luck!!

I made the Tigger one - won't be doing it again in a hurry!!! :flower:
