It's so funny; I always click on the spoiler tags in this thread, even though I know I'll be terrified by what I see.

Your pets are super cool, theraphosidae. I would even go as far as to call the gecko adorable.

Thanks! Unfortunately our collection is nowhere near what it used to be. At one point, a couple years ago, we had 200+ tarantulas, 25 snakes, 15 lizards, 10 scorpions, a giant centipede, several black widow spiders, mice colonies, rat colonies, mealworm and cricket colonies. When we moved though we sold most of our collection of tarantulas and scorpions, and then when we found out I was pregnant, we needed our second bedroom as a nursery so sold most of our lizards and snakes. All we have now are two tarantulas and the lizards and snakes I put pictures of in my last post. I miss our collection but until we move into a bigger place with a bedroom we can lock, we're just going to keep our collection small and the number of venemous animals extremely limited.

I'm afraid i'm one of those who dont agree with naked animals being bred as they cant be bred ethically and people who do bred them are just out to make money.
I have a naked rat who was part of a huge rescue and he is tiny compaired to my other bucks. i also had a hairless doe from that litter(along with a fured one) who had been living with the buck. Both does had kits within a day of each other but the naked couldnt lactate which is a common issue but luckily i managed to foster her baby onto the other doe.

Yeah I agree that it's not right...I just love them because they're so cute.

I remember when I was looking up their care and stuff (I was given the hairless rat, I didn't buy it) there was so much about how easily they die and all that. Sure enough, we had him for only a couple of weeks.

It's like snakes (sorry, I relate to that better and am more knowledgeable in reptiles than mammals) how people breed all these crazy morphs, which look beautiful, and some can cost tens of thousands of dollars (yes, for snakes) but it's often at the detriment of the snake because it takes a lot of inbreeding to get that way, and you can only inbreed so much before you start seeing signs. Like hairless animals, it's done for money and it's sad.

My hairless is named Adonis, I thought he was really odd when he arrivied but i actually rather like them now. He has been here about 6 months now so is doing well.

We used to keep hairless rats at the pet shop I worked at. Much like "skinny pigs" and sphinx cats, they're so ugly they're cute. I've never owned a hairless mammal before, though. Mostly because of the inbreeding issue.

As much as I love reptiles and other animals, is about as much as I hate arachnids and things with thousands of legs. I'm not a "bug" person. Not looking forward to keeping crickets for the beardie. Crickets stink!

I'm also afraid of monkeys. I... don't know why. Maybe it's because they're so similar to us.

So say two people have hairless cats...one from New York, one from Cali. They couldn't just breed those two and get more hairless cats? I don't understand why once the initial result has been done, why does there need to be more inbreeding?

I think I read once that every hairless sphinx cat traces its lineage back to the same two barn cats in CO or someplace like that. And I think that was in the 70's or something? I don't know, it's been a while since I looked it up.

Basically, the hairlessness is a recessive mutation, so you have to have two animals with that same mutation to produce mutated offspring. I think the original female was bred with her sons, then the kittens of that litter were bred together, and so on.

It is a shallow genepool. No diving.

Inbreeding isnt bad in all animals if done properly, my rat breeding line is 3rd gen from just one pair of rats. It can be dangerous if done in some animals though hence the need to research.

I have a 14 lb Female Maine Coon. She is not over weight the vet has confirmed she is just big boned.

Here is Lady Ashelia B'Nargin Dalmasca pretending to be a gopher to see the top of the sink? She is a tall one. At 31 inches in length she is more than half my height in length. Clicking on the photo turns it right side up.

This is our niece Dakota. She is 14 years old and the sweetest thing? Australian Shepard, collie, husky. So she looks like a pup still with the oversized husky paws.

Hiya, gorgeous pets everyone.

We have a maine coon boy who is very much our baby, he's 4 now. To answer your question; i've made sure I make time for him, when Jacob was a newborn he definitely had his nose put out and maybe didn't get enough attention as he needed. But i've worked out how to juggle them both now so it's all cool. I must admit hubby doesn't fuss over him as much as he used to, however, they do snuggle up in bed at the end of the day .
Pang's kindof my best buddy, with me being a SAHM, so I spend a lot of time fussing over him (he's a house cat).

LOVE THE MAINE COONS! We're huge fans...
My big (18lbs) and handsome Maine Coon is my avatar. He's been my boy for 6 years (about 14yrs old). We also have a Siamese that we adopted 2 years ago (~10yrs old) I'm putting his picture below. They are spoiled rotten and they are definitely are children. My parents even refer to them as their grandcats!
