Hi to all, im really stressed & any advice, opinions much appreciated, basicaly i have been off work since febuary then went back in october for a week, the second week i was involved in an accident and had a week off due to pains in my stomach and lower back, i have been telephoning my manager everyday to keep them updated, but this morning he said he had told HR and that they would be in touch, he was not happy atall with me being pregnant when i handed in my official pregnancy letter, im 23 weeks pregnant and so worried if they sack me, i know all the time off doesnt look good but it was for a genuine reason and i went to hospital, will they lay me off oh by the way my manager sounded very smug and said hopefuly ill see you next week, i cant afford to be out of work, thankyou for reading & a big thanks for any replies.

I'm not sure how it works here, but I'm pretty sure it is illegal for them to fire you based on sound medical issues, including pregnancy.

Does your work have a sickness policy? Employers can ask you to have a phased return to work or that you leave but I'm not sure how it all works. Perhaps try moneysavingexpert.com as they have loads of helpful people who know what they're talking about. Beware of some posters being nasty though - unfortunately there seems to be a lot of trolls about.

It could be that your HR department gets you to see an occupational health doctor. That's not a bad thing. I had to see one with all the sickness I had off with my miscarriages. He said my time off was entirely appropriate to the situation and even offered me more support/time off!

As for firing you, if it is pregnancy related sickness they can't take it into account in the UK. You mention an accident so maybe that is handled differently

because the accident led to the pains in my tummy & back i thought its pregnancy related? or am i wrong?

Could very well be then. Try not to worry. See what they say first and take it from there.
I'm sure you'll be ok, hon :hugs:
