Can someone come and chat to me about Reflux Formula's please?

yep weve been ok for constipation but then lo has apple and rasen porridge and also plums frequently xx

Thanks Mrs A, roll on the plums lol

I'm even considering trying to bf again (still have a little milk I could work on), I really dont remember Millie having reflux when I was bf, I only stopped as I was poorly and on antibiotics, still am I'm afraid but different ones. Cefalexin, does anyone know if you can bf on these? I was on Amoxi Clav but they made her very unsettled.

Can breast milk help with reflux, anyone tried it? I know bf babies can still have reflux but wondered whether it could be a solution. Only slight problem is Millie sleeps through now and really don't think I could fill her enough to do this. Its never easy is it?

babies that have reflux have reflux regardless of how they are fed. If anything i would think bm is harder to keep down than formula because its thinner

my best friends LO has terrible reflux and she is now just over 12mths and was EBF until 9mths of age :o(
she eats through gaviscon.

Just thought it was probably because I was feeding on demand little and often. Thinking back she was still quite squirmy and would bite down also on the nipple and arch her back. They just seem a lot worse now on ff, but obviously trying to get her to take more oz's.
I'm just at a loss at the minute and think I'm clutching at straws, Im not sure if this could happen but now I have taken her off the Gaviscon the reflux is much worse and she is refusing bottles, only having about 2oz per feed and you can see it repeating on her.

Just read somewhere they have changed the ingredients in cow and gate comfort. Millie has been worse on this new tub, thinking about it and doesnt seem to want it, I'm wondering if she doesnt like something in the new formula. I think they've added fish oils.

OMG W our wee one is the same on the new formula. I've been onto cow and gate and they assure she shouldn't be reacting to it. We've now got hypo milk from the doc to try as they think she's intolerant to cow's milk I'm so pissed off I can't begin to tell you as she won't take this milk......

First of all, it's not advised that c and g comfort is used with gaviscon. It already is a thickened formula, putting in gaviscon is making it extra thick.

I don't know about the other formulas though because we used sma stay down.

Most reflux formulas are pre thickened, that's what they are made to do, so gaviscon can't really be used.

You need to either use a normal formula with gaviscon, or a reflux formula without.

Failing either, the doc can prescribe meds.

only just found out gaviscon thickens the formula!

rang aptimel helpline as lo restless and uncomfy and seems hungry every 2=4 hrs....not happy......she told me to stop hungry baby milk...a friend had told me 2 use it. Keep on 1st milk but if using gav use no.2 teats. lets it flow better. also use old fashioned bottles

OMG good to know I'm not the only one, but not good with regards to the milk.:nope:

Just tried Millie again on the Sma staydown, I warmed it more and will be honest I did shake it a little after stirring and rolling it:blush:
Anyway she drank the lot, she has only been having 2oz of the comfort, totally gone off it, so I was really shocked as she has always refused this. And touch wood she is like a different baby, very content and smiley, had a tiny bit of a gurge but she had hiccups, so fingers crossed.

DinkieDoo, could you maybe mix half and half to get used to the taste.

Ive also been doing some research on breast milk and if it could help reflux. I found it could because it is more easier to digest for little ones, so going to also maybe introduce a few breast feeds when I finish the antibiotics.

Has anyone shaken the staydown? Is it so bad if you do? I warm bottles slightly in microwave (yes, I know you shouldn't lol) but obviously need to shake any hotspots.
Lo does seem very settled, still bringing up milk but not hurting also could you put extra water with say one bottle to avoid constipation or is that a complete no no.

And one last thing, what do you use to mix it with and how do you sterilise it?

1. yes weve shaken it and it just goes like cement so its a real no no!

2 no you cant put extra water in the bottle as it wont do the job its supposed to and she'll be very sick again

3 mix it with cooled boiled water thats been left in the fridge overnight.
sterilize in the normal way

Thanks Mrs A. To be honest it is thick but she is used to it with being on the comfort. She just wont drink it cold.

Just had an awful experience. Millie was violently sick and couldnt breathe because the stay down stuff was so thick. Its really scared me what if she does this in her sleep

Oh no scary!! This happened to my LO when i put him on lactose free formula and he was in bed, lucky i was in his room at the time. I have him on 100% whey formula so it is easy to digest and he hasn't thrown up since

Thanks babyfromgod. Its awful isnt it. Im just not sure what the solution is. I dont want to keep trying new things and messing with her system. But I'd rather have a baby being sick and breathing.
