Yeah your benefits will stop if you go to uni because they expect you to take out all the loans/grants/burseries you are entitled to, and this counts as income thus making you over the qualifying limit. Even if you don't take them out you don't get benefits because you can take them out iykwim?
Plus, not all unis have childcare available regardless of grants etc.. For example, my uni only has a playgroup. But that only runs for ages 3-5 and from 9am - 12pm. It;s free as it is part of the child psychology department.
We have a playgroup in an arts centre in our university (although independant of it) for £5 but again only for 3-5 year olds and certain times.
The only two nurserys near my uni that take children under the age of 3 are private and the cheapest one charges £17.50 a day (thanks to a student discount), for a half day. And two days out of the three I am in are only 2 hours, yet I'd need to pay £17.50 for this. So for 4 hours a week I'd be paying £35, and for the full day another £35 s £70 a week, plus extras for any meals etc. they need to provide. Plus travel expenses their and back. All together I'd be over £100 a week for LO in nursery for 8 hours!
Council nursery waiting lists are just too long.
