benifits for dummies thread...i think it would be great for people to go onto and look into benifits made simple so people like me dont need to go trailing around different websites looking for pointless information.....

:happydance: you know it makes sence people :happydance:

sounds like a brilliant thread idea to me!

i just don't know enough about them to make one otherwise i would hehe

I could I hate the stupid benifit system, it makes me angry and I only know bout JSA, HB and IS for me xoxo

Great idea. Went to citizens advice last week about it and found out some interesting stuff :)

A great idea in theory. But benefits mostly depend on your individual circumstances and it can change dramtically from person to person depending on their situation. You could a breif outline of all the benefits and the generals rules

I would also have informatIon of training etc in the same thread. Because whilst on beneifits people should look for work or training. Again depending on their cicrumstances they may be unable to go back into work training. I.e Disability or some single parents etc. I know when I was on benefits not that long ago I found loads of information that helped me and my partner when planning to go to uni (for me) and college for my partner. Like care to learn, grants etc
xx

I found one ages ago on here. I'll try dig it out and link it.

Also with all the changes going on within the benefit system. Maybe hold off a little until we know what the new rules will be or add them at a later date
xx

Yeah sounds a better plan in holding out. What about a thread pointing ou all the freebies and offers you can apply to.
I mean I've got free nappies, baby food, cuddly toys and stuff already!

I plan to go to uni in sept, how will it work do you know as atm Im on JSA and change to income support on Tuesday ?? xxx

You don't get either because they take your loan/grant/parent support grant into consideration as income. But it works out the same money roughly. And your Uni should have childcare you get

Eeeekk thats kind of alot of money at one time to budget!!
xxx

You will get a loan or grant hun depending on the course. I am doing pediatirc nursing so I get a bursary basicallylike a wage from the nhs.

It is a lot to budget. You may have to pay full rent but you will be exempt from council tax as you are a full time student
xx

Shit my full rent is like £100 a week!!
God I don't want to go now agghh. . . I need to go and talk to citizens advice:wacko:
xxx

You may get some help with your rent hun. I would apply and see how it goes. It may not be easy but the way I see it is. I may be tight for money for 3 years but after that I will go into a good job that I enjoy and get payed a wage they will be better for me and my family :)
xx

My course is 3 years and then Im doing a PGCE so 4 in total . . . :(
Im going to see where I stand (I hate the new gov) :haha: Thought I'd throw that in as we are now going to get less and less

Student loans youmay not get less as it is a loan

Bursarys won't really be affected as they are investing in the future of the NHS etc
xx

Yeah your benefits will stop if you go to uni because they expect you to take out all the loans/grants/burseries you are entitled to, and this counts as income thus making you over the qualifying limit. Even if you don't take them out you don't get benefits because you can take them out iykwim?

Plus, not all unis have childcare available regardless of grants etc.. For example, my uni only has a playgroup. But that only runs for ages 3-5 and from 9am - 12pm. It;s free as it is part of the child psychology department.
We have a playgroup in an arts centre in our university (although independant of it) for £5 but again only for 3-5 year olds and certain times.

The only two nurserys near my uni that take children under the age of 3 are private and the cheapest one charges £17.50 a day (thanks to a student discount), for a half day. And two days out of the three I am in are only 2 hours, yet I'd need to pay £17.50 for this. So for 4 hours a week I'd be paying £35, and for the full day another £35 s £70 a week, plus extras for any meals etc. they need to provide. Plus travel expenses their and back. All together I'd be over £100 a week for LO in nursery for 8 hours!

Council nursery waiting lists are just too long.
