I always believed that at around 9 months babies moved from an infant car seat to the next stage up. My lo is just 9 months so today I checked the maximum weight on the car seat. My lo is not big but I thought she'd needed to move up soon so I'd find out when and start researching the next stage. But it says the max weight is 13kg. My lo is no where near that. I've looked the seat up on line and it's advertised for use until roughly 15 months. Does this seem right? I really expected to have to move her up to the next stage soon. I know that where her head is also effects when to change seats but she's not near the top yet. It's great if I don't need to change seats yet because I really want to save for an erf one but I don't want to have some how read the information wrong.

I would keep your child in her infant seat for as long as possible. As long as her head is not sticking over the top of the seat and she does not weigh more than 13kg (28.6lbs) then the infant carrier is by far the safest seat for her to be in.
Group 1 seats are not suitable until babies weight at least 9kg (19.8lbs) – be guided by her weight rather than her age. The longer you can stay rear facing the better.

Most infant seats now go upto 13kg. Which is roughly 12-15 months. As long as her head isnt over the top, keep her in that seat.

Thank you. She's not even 8kg yet so definitely not ready for the next stage. I'm relieved I have more time to save for an erf one now.

Most are up to 13kg now (previously 9kg). I'm keeping mine in his till he no longer fits regardless of age :)

Does anyone know where their feet should come to? We have room the head end but feet are running out of space. She has about 9 lbs to go before we hit the 13kg wright limit too.

Sorry double post. Thanks kala :)

We've just moved this week as his head was just below the top, his legs have been bunched for a long time!

I'll be honest I have no idea how much he weighs tho, lol.

Ours had a weight and height limit, whichever is reached first is when you need to change seats (at least that's my understanding). My LO just moved into his new seat at 12 months because he's almost 30 inches and that was the height limit (or 1 inch below top of shell). He's now in an ERF convertible seat which is also safe from newborn and up. He was nowhere near the 30 lb weight limit on his infant seat.

Am I the only one who hates carriers? Next baby will go in a convertable from birth.

I found the infant seat/carrier necessary for me to go shopping anywhere. LO couldn't stand to be in the Ergo carrier that I have. He hates to be restricted in any way. What do you do when you go shopping? Nobody here uses those flat, bed-like prams. They just put an infant seat into a grocery cart.

I either use the pushchair or put him in the trolley seat - o never take the carseat out of the car, its too much of a pain in the arse to put it back in! X

I think I must have heard that the next stage ones start at 9 months and assumed that meant the infant ones stop at 9 months. We don't use it as a travel system anymore and it does just stay in the car (it's too heavy to carry her in it now anyway) so I wouldn't mind moving her to the next stage but if she's not ready that's great as it gives me more time to save.

Twins are 16 months and still in carriers :-) Only just weigh 9kg now and no where near top of seat!
Dont plan on changing any time soon!
