my daughter was diagnosed on saturday with CMPI. she had had diarrhea for 11 days, very loose and around 12 plus stools a day. it also ended up with blood in it. she has has silent reflux (small amounts of spitting up).

they put her on nutramigen. within 3 feeds on it her poo was solid again. however her reflux worsened badly. she spent 24 hours just screaming. i visited GP who prescribed Carobel thickener for the milk.

after 24 hours on this shes settled, happy, feeding well. sleeping most of the day and night.....but now her poo is goin loose again. we had 3 since midniggt.

i dont know what to do. i dont know if this is cos of the carobel or what.....if they tell me to take her off it the reflux will return.

anyone any experience of this???

I know that my son is on nutramigen and it has made his stools runny, almost like water. Lol. Its gross but the doctor said it was normal. Maybe its just the formula? Its known for making stools runny.

Sorry that isn't much help. Xx

my son is on nutramigen for CMPI, he was the opposite.. his poop was rock hard (along with other symptoms) its softened them right up but theyre not overly runny tbh
i'd ring your gp again if somethings not right. im seeing ours for a 2 week review tomorrow morning.
my friends little girl was on it, and she was sick constantly so they swapped her onto sma which solved her problem.

the nurtamigen smells awful doesn't it.. my son brings up his wind so good but oh my days I almost throw up cos it smells soooooo bad lol!

thank you. if it makes stools runny i dont know how im supposed to tell whether its diarrhea like she had before or just normal for the milk?! but the thing is for the first few days on nutramigen her poo went like play dough, its started getting runny again with the carobel...but i really dont want to stop it cos shes soooo much happier :-/

Maddie has CMPI - your LO might be reacting to the proteins in the Nutramigen (they are broken down more but there). Maddie did - she was switched to Neocate and much happier xx

My LO is on Nutramigen and Carobel. Milk poos are supposed to be soft I thought? At least my LO's always were. Milk changes can upset things, so it could be that they have gone looser as she has adjusted to the milk. I would keep things as they are for a few days before going back to the Dr if she seems happy and settled. Carobel can cause constipation so you might be lucky there.

its not so much soft but loose, leaks straight out of her nappy. yes i will see how it goes. problem is if shes doing lots of loose poos again her weight will probably be affected again

It's so hard to know what's best isn't it? Amelie exploded out her nappy I think for the first 10 days on Nutramigen. You may need Neocate or Nutramigen AA but hopefully this is just settling in phase. Let us know how it goes.

well from this mornings feeds i stopped the carobel just to see, and the diarrhea stopped. back to solid greeny coloured poo on the nutrimigen. but the reflux symptoms immediately appeared.....so its something in the carobel?!?! so is it best to have a happy settled baby who leaks her nappy at every feed....or an unsettled baby who is sicking up more but having normal poos....

At least you know it's the carobel now. I would pick whichever option results in a happier baby.
