cervix thick and closed at 39 weeks!!

During my appointment today ob said my cervix is thick and closed.They have scheduled a ultrasound to check the fluid levels on my due date(next Monday) but my ob said they usually wait 10 days after the due date for any medical intervention to take place!!I cannot imagine just sitting for another 10 days after due date!!Is this the norm everywhere in US?I have seen posts where people are induced 5 days after due etc !! Someone please tell me that they went to labor soon even with cervix closed and high and didnt have to wait 10 days after due date !!This is crazy I thought I was having baby in sep !!How do u guys deals with impatience

I know how hard it is at the very end, but our bodies are almost always designed to figure this stuff out on its own The rush to induce is one thing about the US that is truly awful, in my opinion.

Baby will be born before you know it! Try to enjoy your last moments, though I know how hard it is!!

Also, your body can change in an instant--doctor checks are hardly worth it, in my opinion, because it either discourages you or makes you sure your labor will start any moment. I was like 3 cm dilated for weeks. Another friend of mine had no signs at all and had the baby a day later. It all is magical and we just can't predict it sometimes.

Trust your body and try to enjoy your last few days of being preggo

I knw I need to trust my body but somehow I end up ranting y others are baby before due date and y I am not!! I hope my little guy comes out by due date Thank you so much for the reply really puts me at ease when someone tells me it can happen soon !!

Just from talking to my friends that have had babies, I've found that most of them that were actually dilated prior to due date, ended up going OVER their due date, and those that still had their plug, weren't dilated, nothing, ended up having their water break and going on or before their due date.

I'm not sure if I've dropped, last week the doctor said the baby's head is right below my pelvic bone, but my cervix is still high and closed VERY ready for this baby to come!

I'm not sure about the US thing as im from the UK but when I was 5 days over with Dd3 the midwife tried to do a sweep but couldn't as my she said I was unfavourable, she was born within the next 48 hours. As a previous poster said I really don't think it means much and defiently doesn't mean that it won't happen any time soon.

My cervix was thick, closed and high at 10/11am and W was born at 8pm that night.

Thats al great news! I went over with both my previous2 i had lost plug and dilated to 2 fr weeks x

With my previous I was induced at 41 weeks and 3 days. They didn't see a reason to induce me before then. I went for NSTs weekly to check baby's movements and fluid and because everything looked okay, they kept me going. But once I hit 41 weeks they decided to induce because for that hospital's policy, that was the limit. I heard it's actually normal in the US for them to let us go that long before inducing us. I was dilated to 3.5cm and effaced 50% and nothing was happening. I had the bloody show, cramps, contractions, the whole 9 and yet nothing happened. SUCKS. Hang in there, everyone is different. This is just MY personal experience. GOOD LUCK!

Omg please do not worry. I went to my dr on Monday and she couldn't even attempt a stretch and sweep I was SO closed. My dr even said...oh dear your in for the long haul and booked my induction for 2 weeks later!! Hahaha. That was Monday afternoon. I went into labour Tuesday night!! Your body changes in an instant!! Try not to stress.

These posts make me feel better as well. At my appointment today the dr couldn't reach my cervix. But hey, it could be any day anyway

oh I feel you! At 36 weeks i was told i was 2 cm and 50%.. at 37 weeks a different dr in the practice said i was 2 cm and 80% effaced..wellll last thursday a day before 39 wks that dr (yet again a different one!!) said i was 1 maybe 2 and 25% effaced??!!! what! then i ended up going to the hosp with cramps in sat and they said still 1 maybe 2 and 25%!! i was cintracting but not enough to change my cervix! I lost some plug with brown mixed in the tues before last then a bunch more that sunday.. yesterday i had some weird slimy clearish yellow stuff which i been getting on and off... and nothing, still crampy and some irregular contractions

My waters went and I got contractions at 4 minutes apart and my cervix was high and tight, I ended up getting a simple pessary 9 hours into labour to help me dilate

offlate the words I hate the most is high and closed !!My moms frnds daughter just had her baby she was due on oct 10 !!My mom is was so jealous hi hihi,my husband was like is der a way to smoke the baby out just like we smoke the bees hih ihi

mum22ttc#3, special_kala , cat123456 Ur experiences give me a lot of hope.Thank u so much ladies I am walking around 2 miles in the morning and 2 miles in the evening.I usually eat lot of spicy food.I read somewhere that sex encourages labor ,god bless their heart i take a bow for all those pregnant women who have sex I cannot imagine having sex Did you guys do anything to encourage labor?

I didnt do anything my due date was just before xmas so i wanted to hold as long as i could and she came 28th xx

Oh our due dates are so close!!!looks like our babies are strong headed hi hihi!!I cant wait to hold him !!When is your next appointment?My next appointment is on my due date!How long is you ob gonna wait before inducing(I really hope it doesnt get to that for you )Anyways I have someone to wait with yay .Wishing labor on you way .I never thought i would wish pain upon someone and myself hi hih i !!Keep us updated!!
