Child tax credit, first baby

Hi, i got two job and will get only smp from one of them and nothing from the other one so i ll end up with only 90pounds a week instead of at least 180 (by the way that is sooo unfair, if they were only one job i would get at least 128). Anyway, I was wondering if i will have to wait until the baby was born to start a claim on child tax credit ? Also i will probably be entitled to sures start maternity grant once i get child tax credit but then that mean i ll have it after the baby is born. My OH is working but he is on minimum wage and he might be off work for a couple of months due to the low season (he works in a hotel). I am starting to worry now, any help would be great thank xx

I didn't get CTC till after my LO was born hun (at least, I'm sure I didn't) xx

You won't get any Tax credits till the little one arrives but you can check on the hmrc website just now how much you would roughly be able to claim once they're here. Plus because you were on a low wage you can claim working tax credits too even whilst your on maternity xx
