I have been offered a job which is a bit once in a lifetime.

It involves emmigrating to Sweden and it is quite a big promotion. Husband has also been offered a role with the same company and we have seriously subsidised housing included. Financially it is win-win.

However I will be leaving behind a lot of conveniences. Currently the nursery my son attends is 3 doors down! Fantastic!! The nursery he would attend in Sweden is about 30 minutes from our house. I am so worried about something happening and not being able to get to him. Do many of you use nurseries that are some distance from work?

Also for those that work from home: I will be doing a combination of working from my house and office (which are indeed in the same building and next door to one another).

Prior to my daughter, when I worked, my son was at nursery. This worked fine because I walked down the road to drop him off, drove 10 minutes to work. I worked 25 hours a week.

In Sweden he will only be able to go to nursery 15 hours a week as it is capped - I am happy with this. I want to enjoy my kids growing up. I will spend a lot more time travelling though.

What do you all do with your children when working from home? The kids will be with me most of the day i.e. in the office. Now I will be working for an outdoor activity centre so there is loads of land and of course the children can go out to play. But I am scared that I will not be able to give my full attention to either role.

Any answers to the above questions will be gratefully received!

Thanks
G x

Can't help with most of your concerns but Evan goes to nursery in the village where we live but we both go to work 30 mins away. It's never been a problem - he was ill Friday and I was home fairly quickly - I prefer him to be at home in a rural area than in an inner city nursery where I work.

I may not quite be answering your questions, but I lived in Sweden as a university exchange student and I was so struck in my time there by the high quality of the daghemma system.
There is such a great support between parents, work, and little ones there. I wish this was the model for the rest of the western world, quite frankly!
I think you will be pleasantly surprised by how well it works!
Congrats to you and your partner on the job offers! :)

Oh that is fantastic news!! I want the kids to have a fantastic quality of life so that really helps. Do you mind if I PM you with some other questions about Sweden? :flower:

You are welcome to, but I should warn you that I lived there as a university student in 1995-96! :) I did not have kids of my own then, but had several classmates with kids and learned about the system from them.
