Children playing outwith the garden on own...what age?

Our garden is secure as it has to be due to dog. We have a side gate with a huge padlock on it and other than that we are surrounded by other gardens so no road out back but they are fenced in anyway. I do leave them out the back while I am in lounge etc but never out the front. I just dont think kids that age should be responsible for themselves. Its not about how safe somewhere is (we live in a safe area) its just I dont think kids need to be out alone x
