OKIES so this may be a daft question but is it safe to eat chinese food in the first tri? I am absolutely hankering some right now but am all in whirl about whats safe n whats not. If anyone knows if it is (or not) then be great to find out.

Thankyouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu XXXXX

hilarious I was just thinking "ooo I want chinese food for dinner". I've eaten it a few times, but I just go w/ the safe dishes, no seafoods or sushi. I think its ok.

lol. I'm eating some while I type this! as long as it is all fully cooked you will be fine!

I haven't heard Otherwise and have eaten it a few times. Think i actually would cry if I found out it was A no go.

YAY thanks girls, that was my hunch too. We asked then to leave out the MSG (just to be on the safe side) and they cook everything freshly in front of you and its always super hot and gorgeous.

Its crazy cos I always love spicy foods like mexican and curries and my beloved chinese foods too and I want them ALL the time but have been cautious just in case.

Am having it tonight for dinner!!
I'm quite boring though and always have Egg fried rice, Chicken chow mein (without the onions -i'm allergic and without the beanshoots) and curry sauce x

ha...I just had Thai last night. I think I would be one cranky Momma if I couldn't have my Asian food!!

I had Chinese last night :) It was amazing! :D xx

As a Chinese girl, I'm just a little confused by your question! I'm sure you can eat Chinese, as 1 billion + Chinese people show.

I'm biased, but I'd say Chinese food is particularly good for preggos, because you won't find undercooked meat and even the veg are cooked to minimise risk of contamination. Plus there's lots of veg, which is great for the baby.

Leaving out the msg is a good idea, but it isn't necessary anyway. I've never cooked with it.

And sushi is not Chinese....I'm not aware of any raw fish Chinese dish!

I've had chinese before and it made me sick. (Sorry TMI) but just thought you should know but everyone is different. :)

If I had a bad hamburger (and I have) I'm not about to say all American food will make you sick.

Just saying....

I wonder what millions of Chinese people would do if they couldn't eat their own food while preggo lol

Actual Chinese food is different to the Chinese you buy in a take away... I might be wrong but when collegues have visited china, their food is nothing like take away foods xx

Ewww.
I love chinese food but the thought of it right now makes me sick..
lol..

4pc wings and fries they serve here at the chinese restaurant I Looooooooove it...

I know that American Chinese food is different from actual Chinese food. It's got a ton of salt and, from what I've heard, is a lot more fried than what Chinese people eat on a regular basis.

I've personally had to stay away from Chinese restaurants around here. But that's just because Chinese food hasn't really agreed with me lately. In fact... nothing has. :haha:

My fetus seems to want chinese food the most. But then again, I'm chinese.

It's my comfort food. And while I still like a good burger, my taste buds are now saying most western food is too dry, greasy, or bland to keep me eating.

Except bread pudding. Oh!!

Thanks to this post, I will be having chinese for dinner tonight. ^_^

Thankyou all so much for the replies. I didn't intend this post to sound *ignorant* as I am perfectly aware of the fact that millions of people all over the world eat and cook chinese food every day. Maybe I should have specified that it was chinese takeaway food in the uk rather than homecooked chinese food.

Here in the Uk they often add chemicals to take aways (not just chinese food but allsorts of different styles of food), apparently to enhance flavours, although I am sure they are not needed. So I just was curious as to anyone who had heard if there was anything that was safer to be avoided (like MSG for example) in the first trimester.

I regularly cook chinese food and other world food at home but sometimes its nice to have the work done for you. And it was this that made me feel that I needed a little more information about the extra ingrediants they put in take aways and was interested to see what others knew and heard.

Thanks again for all the answers and for clearing up my little pregnancy brain over protective worries.
