Anyone of you has a hell of a family and isn't looking forward to the getting together? Am I the only one?

I've spent the last 4 Christmas away from home because I can't stand my family... It seems like everyone is there because they NEED to be there if you know what I mean. It's also a big competition, who's got the most money, who buys the more presents, the most expensive presents... Who dresses the best etc. There is always drama, people arguing etc. Lots of jealousy too.

To be honest I'm not looking forward to see my family, as sad as it sounds.
I'm looking forward to be with my mom and dad, hubby & Josh and my grandma... But the others, not so much.

Am I the only one with a family like this?

I don't want to bring Josh up into this. I want him to see Christmas as a magic & joyful celebration. I also want him to know there are people less fortunate than us and want him to take this opportunity to give to charity (when he's a bit older, of course) And I want him to know it's not all about presents and getting lots of them, it's also about giving and spending time with the people you love.

 Hope it turns out to be enjoyable for you. I wouldn't worry about what the others think. Screw them!

90% of my family I wouldn't sit with the best of times nevermind at Christmas - Stu, Caitlin & bump are my family now.

I'd be happy to host Christmas day with people I like but that to me doesn't mean it has to be family its like you say enjoying a magic day with the kids or people close to you.

Hope the day doesn't go too bad for you & your family x

My family is exactly the same. All these snobby people giving their wives and kids huge presents and then telling them to open them in front of everyone so we can all see how expensive they are

I live quite far from my parents, and I was there last year but I'm not going this one. They're come here on 'Boxing day' and thats it.
I'm spending Christmas with Lola,my sister and my friends in the good old spirit of Christmas
