Hi Ladies

Have just been on a previous thread about telling the sex of the baby according to the heart rate and I added an alternative theory that I had heard, (possible old wives tale), that if your baby is a boy, then the heartbeat sounds like a chugging train and if it is a girl, then it sounds like a galloping horse.

Anyway because of this, I have convinced myself I am having a boy as the heartbeat definitely sounds like a chugging train, but I don't know yet what the sex is.....

So, I though that it would be interesting to see if any of you lovely ladies who know if you are having a boy or a girl also have a recording of the heartbeat that you could post here, so we can see if there is any truth in this theory so I can stop driving myself nuts! :dohh:

Thanks xx

hi jeanie.. when r u due.. even i expect a baby boy.. the heartbeat was 168bpm when i got it last checked at my 12wks scan..

Ohhh little mans sounds like a chugging train for defo, but I can't remember what TIffanys sounded like :dohh: !

my little boys sounds like a galloping horse sometimes.. but other times when his heart rate is slower it sounds like a train

ANd his heart rate was 155 not sure if thats supposed to mean boy or girl x

When I first heard heartbeat on doppler at around 13 weeks I though it sounded like a choo choo train but I had to search for it as it was a bit muffly.
But from 15 weeks onwards when I started hearing it everytime I tried, I have a galloping horse in there for sure. Sounds EXACTLY like it!! She has been 150 bpm give or take since then and at 18 weeks was confirmed girl :)

We are having a little boy and he normally sounds like a little train :-)

Mine sounds like both. On my Doppler she is a train and on midwife's Doppler she is a galloping horse. I really don't believe this old wives tale. Xx

I'm not sure!! I just spent time researching the difference between the 2 sounds, and all that I'm coming up with is that the galloping horse is faster... Is this true?? I think the first couple of times we heard the heartbeat it sounded like a galloping horse, but it was slower yesterday... Not sure what to think about this...

I worked with women antenatally for 2 years, and i can tell you girl and boys don't have specific HRs....old wives tale :)

all babies have both sounds, it just depends the positioning of the doppler I have found :flower: x

Thanks everyone, I suppose it's true for some of you, but may be coincidental - still no clearer on this.

Would be good to hear some recordings from those of you who know the sex, so that we can have a listen ... might help us decide if there is some truth in it or whether it really is just an old wives tale!?

Anyone want to post? :flower: x
