Circumcision?

I can't believe some of the reasons I'm reading here. "I don't like the way it looks"...really?! Ears (the outer part) aren't exactly pretty and they aren't all that necessary but we don't lop them off at birth, do we?

The issue with being clean...well, women have a foreskin too - it's their clitoral hood. This gets gunk under it if it's not being washed properly either and it's not the prettiest piece of skin either. Why don't we circumcise little girls as well?

I'm just going to leave a video here for anybody sitting on the fence...I know it reinforced the stance that I held on circumcision. I do not believe that circumcision should be the parents choice - it's their son's body, not theirs. You do not own your children.

Warning - there are graphic parts, however these are warned about in the video before they occur so you can look away in due time.

Great video if you cant make up your mind. I was completely against it before but this video made me stand by it even more. Made me cry as I could never put my own child thru the pain.

Oh hun, I'm sorry it made you cry :hugs:

I am not referring to the old testement or any christian book for that matter...thats a whole different debate! but people have firm religious beliefs and wether we agree with them or not we should respect them. By the way... i am NOT religious, my dhs family are BUT i will do my research and if i find my baby will be at risk...or will suffer then that will be enough for me to dismiss any possibility of performing the procedure, BUT i am not religious and therefor... i have the freedom to choose. Many people dont see it as a choice. But they do it as they think its best and as far as religion goes thats not a debate anyone is going to win with someone who has firm faith should be respected. Because two parties dont agree on something doesnt mean any of them are wrong... it just means they are different.
As i said... i dont like foreskins...just my personal opinion...but its certainly not a reason i would consider to be eligible for circumcision.
I also DO think circd is more hygenic.... BUT intact IS natural and i wont jepordise my babies health or well being som i will do my research and do what i think is right by my child and i wont be pressurised either way :winkwink:

But please believe me when some people dont even consider it a choice due to cultural/religious beliefs and acceptance :flower:

oh and the video you posted... the man presenting it said that in Scotland this surgery is not carried out...this is so not true so it would make me doubt his accuracy in other areas

But please believe me when some people dont even consider it a choice due to cultural/religious beliefs and acceptance :flower:

And some you would think would feel that way have found ways to rise above it: https://www.jewsagainstcircumcision.org/

Good on you for being prepared to do your research - I think a lot of parents go in to circumcision unprepared, uneducated and it is at least worth looking in to it and finding whether you agree with it or not, from an informed point of view if that makes sense :) I do recommend watching the video posted on the previous page - obviously it is completely up to you if you watch it or not but I believe it to be very informative and I think it comes at things from both angles.

I haven't watched it recently so cannot recall what he said verbatim regarding circumcision in Scotland, but are you saying that he said it is not performed at all or that it is not performed commonly? That may be the kicker here. I think you will find that if you have a read around you will find a lot of his points about circumcision are very valid.

Hehe these pregnancy hormones just get me going. But I think the video had very valid points. Before my son since "circ" was the thing I was told to do and was more common with the people I knew around me, automatically circumsidion was what I was going to do. After researching not doing it was the choice for me.
Everyone has there way but I do believe it is something to think about.

He just said it isnt done in Scotland... He may have been meaning socially though. i defiantely intend on doing research and that also means watching the procedure..i will not be ignorant about it and go into it blindly. TBH i am 99% sure i wont now... i dont think i was aware of the pain or the true extent of the op. My dh was insistant on it being done... his family are Muslim and there is no choice there, BUT after speaking to my dh and expressing my concerns he said we will do our research together and do whats right by the baby... our choice. But he said we wont do anything that will make the baby suffer.... so i am pretty confident that the points made on the video will become validated after extensive research!! We will not harm our baby just to keep other people happy... specificly the MIL :haha: As a mother it is my duty to defend my child and if that means his lil foreskin that so be it... i will fight to the death
Seriosly though.....i think you are right in that some people do go into it blindly and maybe they prefer to be ignorant cos then they dont have to question their decision... but ultimately i think an informed decision and one based on non biased research is a good decision.

I was present when my son was circ. It's not fun to see your baby in pain but they are over it very quickly and I would do it again.
I think some people may change their minds if they actually watched a circumcision happening, it's pretty terrible. To each their own though.

This is very different then how my sons was done. I used a mohel and dont think I would trust a doctor. My sons literally took 15 seconds and he was fine within 5 minutes.

This is NOT a quick procedure. It looks absolutely horrific.

Sorry if I upset you!

I cant even watch it! just seeing the picture is horrifying! I just cant believe it still happens :growlmad: :nope:

I don't understand the religious thing - as in I don't know which religions require a boy to be circumsized and why, but I guess I can deal with that. The USA thing is such a difference. I have slept with one man with an uncircumsized penis and none of my male friends have had it done either. It just isn't even thought about in England. My nephew however had it done because his foreskin was too tight and would hurt him when he tried to pee. He has it done when he was 5 and he is 8 now. I also have a friend who, if he ever wants children, will HAVE to have it done because he cannot reach orgasm through anything but masturbation. His foreskin is so tight you can see ONLY the eye of the needle and nothing else! Sorry TMI. But that's the kind of reason I can see to have a boy circumsized. Otherwise I don't understand the reasoning in doing it xxx

As a student nurse I have been with a baby whist they are being circumsized and they do cry it can also be very painful to pass urine and I have seen babies cry when they do wee. The health benefits are minimal and the foreskin is there to protect the penis. I saw someone say earlier in the thread they wouldn't want an adult male to have the pain and remember it. So if it is painful for and adult then imagine how painful it must be for a baby? The pain receptors are still there and pain is often magnified for babies and children. As adults tend to have higher pain thresh holds. Also a unessicary surgical procedure I feel should be the childs descion and I do not understand why parents feel they can choose to have a body part removed purely because they want to look like daddy etc . X eta: sorry for spelling and grammar on my phone x

I was under the impression that having it done as a baby was much less serious than an adult???
My brother had it done at 31 and he was put under general anastheatic and off work for 2 weeks!! It was painful for him... but the medical reason he had it done caused him more pain every day... he couln't even have intercourse cos it would tear  But i suppose that is in the minority

At any age it is painful, babies just don't remember it but they still cry and they are still in pain. It is rare for a foreskin to be tight many boys and men have no problems at all with their foreskin. Also an additional risk for babies is the fact they have an immature immune system. When a baby is born their immune system is still very primitive therefore an surgical procedure will put a strain on an immune system already trying to cope with the outside world which increases the risk of infection x

that video is shocking just the pic on the front was enough for me
