Classic children's books?

Wonder if you girls can help me!

I'm going to my friend's baby shower in 3 weeks time & her sister (who is organising it) has asked us all to take a classic children's story with us to start a little library for their LO. A lovely idea but there's over 20 people going so I don't want to get an obvious one iykwim. Especially since we've been asked to write some words of advice/wisdom for motherhood inside the book so it's not like she'll be able to exchange any duplicates!

Only obvious titles seem to be coming to my mind (Hungry Caterpillar, Beatrix Potter, The Gruffalo etc) & I want to make sure I don't get her the same as anyone else.

Does anyone have any ideas on classic books that are maybe a little lesser known or a bit different? Help!

When i was little i LOVED The Naughty Amelia Jane books by Enid Blyton. So much so that if our LO had been a girl, i wanted to call him Amelia!

'each peach pear plum' is lovely, my sisters and i can still recite it off by heart or the elmer the elephant books are great, or the rainbow fish is a very pretty book

They look great but they're so are they too girly if it's a boy?

I thought of Spot too! But LOs round here get Spot books in their Imagination Library Books so their LO will get those anyway. Paddington Bear is a good idea, thanks!

Enid Byton - The Faraway Tree was good, or Famous Five are both quite unisex

OMG I LOVED this as a kid! We had the Xmas one too. Thanks for the idea!

Our LO has Each Peach Pear Plum, I love it too!

Bembleman's bakery! I LOVED this book as a kid! My mum gave me her copy when I had LO. This copy was published in 1978 Bet no-one will get this at the baby shower!!x

Dear zoo is a lovely book. I love anything by jill murphy my favourite as a child was peace at last.although I also like the large family stories. Owl babies is a lovely book.

Just remembered its not a classic but little mister likes sharing a, shell as it has glitter on each page and has beautifully colour pictures. The story is also really nice with a good moral.

on amazon you can get a hardback book of all the hans christian anderson fairy stories or brothers grimm one- they only cost about £7 but look amazing theres about 1000 pages to it!

These were some I can think off that I LOVED when I was little though I think when you search for some of them on amazon some seem to be out of print, you could go with something that's more modern but going to be remembered and become a classic like Harry potter/the dark materials. It might not be something everyone has thought off and then less likely to get the same as someone else?

Dr Seuss
Love you forever (don't know if this is specific for a boy though).
