Beatrix Potter books
Goodnight Moon (obvious though!)

Where the Wild Things Are
Pat the Bunny
Dr. Seuss of course

There are the 'newer' classics like Brown Bear, Brown Bear and Polar Bear, Polar Bear

My all time favourite and already have them for Lola is "the jolly postman"

we also plan on getting the classic "mr men" collection and "puddlelane" books

I also loved "don't put mustard in the custard" :haha: xx

I'd definitely go with a Dr Seuss book. He's my fave!

If you Give a Mouse a Cookie, If You Give a Moose a Muffin.... those are super cute too.

And I'm not sure if they're really classics or not, but there's a couple of really sweet books by Max Lucado... probably best to go with You Are Special! :flower:

What about getting something they'll appreciate when they're a little older like The Hobbit or Peter Pan? You can get really nice editions and they're books that could be kept forever. It's such a lovely idea for a shower. LO didn't get given any books as presents and I wish she had. I've bought her nice editions of my favourite books such as Anne of Green Gables and Little House on the Prairie and plan to build up the collection on birthdays and Christmas. I love reading these books to LO even though she's only 3 months!

If you want to go for something for when they are older I've got this for little man

https://www.thebookpeople.co.uk/web...gId=100&productId=197700&searchTerm=Peter+pan

It's an aboslutely beautiful pop up version of Peter pan.

Ohhh I love Each Peach Pear Plum. I would take something that LO can grow with. My favourite classic children's book is The Water Babies by Charles Kingsley. I first had if read to me when I was about 6 and I must have read it about twenty times since. It's a book that I've grown up with.

For a baby, it has to be 'Pat the Bunny'-- it's a touch and feel book, great for child development and a child favourite.

For an older child, they sell Shel Silverstein's poetry collection 'Where the Sidewalk Ends'. They are the funniest poems, and a great hit with kids. I got it for my friend's daughter along with a couple of other books, and she still raves about it. At daunt books they sell a copy complete with a cd with him reading the poems.

My all time favourite children's book ever-- one that comes complete with its own wisdom: The Giving Tree. Also by Shel Silverstein.

I was going to suggest Shel Silverstein too. His poetry is delightful!

Ah - Brambly Hedge! Loved that when I was little and will have to be bought!

As previous posters have suggested, it's a great idea to get a special, hardback edition of a classic book to keep for when they're older. We've got Wind in the Willows, Winnie the Pooh, The Secret Garden, Nonsense Songs & Stories by Edward Lear (including Owl and Pussycat) and Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe waiting for when LG is old enough.

Other nice titles (some already mentioned): Miffy, Meg and Mog, Peepo, Dear Zoo, Going on a Bear Hunt, Beatrix Potter and Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling.

I also saw a book mentioned here on BnB that had good reviews and looked really lovely called 'On the Night You Were Born'.

The Velveteen Rabbit
The night the toys came to life
Elmer the elephant
Where the wilds things are
5 children & it

this isn't classic but I was given this book for Jensen and it's a favourite to read

I had a book called 'The Elves and the Shoemaker' when I was a little girl. I came across a copy just before Christmas and will enjoy the story myself! Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Three Little Pigs were other favourites of mine.

Been mentioned already but LO loves Dear Zoo. He brings it to us to read about ten times a day!

I work with children, so here are some of their favs...

We're going on a bear hunt
Zog
The monkey puzzle
Tiddler
The Grufallo
The Grufallo's child
Peace at last
The snail and the whale
The rainbow fish

Hope this helps x
