dylan and erin were not much trouble with teething but owen is worse. he finally got his first tooth earlier this week :happydance: but it looks like he has a few just waiting to errupt!

Jacob, touch wood has been good while his teeth are coming through. I use some difflan spray, it numbs their mouth. Would never have thought of using it until I was in hospital with Emma and a nurse suggested to use it.

We had a fab Christmas and both are coming on leaps and bounds. Emma can roll over now and Jacobs stringing two words together now!

Hope everyone is ok?!

Does anyone know how many words a child *should* be saying at 14 months? I am a bit nervous about Joseph as he doesn't speak at all. (well, he says mom, dad and yeah lol)

I think that's pretty normal. Abigail is 13 months and she says 'Mummy, Daddy, Uh oh and Hello', that's it. There is a massive variation in when they start to talk. My friend's little boy is 19 months and he doesn't say a single word. She went to the HV about it and they said that it's only if they say nothing by the age of 2 that it's a cause for concern, and even then some kids will just come out with whole sentences when they're older. It's so hard not to worry isn't it when you start comparing them to other kids who are early talkers!

i wouldnt worry to much about the talking its still young i think once the words start they turn in to parots lol gabrielle was following me around while i was on the phone pretending she had a phone and repeated everything i said lol they all start talking when they are ready and they seem to pick up so many words each day i blows me away how fast it really goes

silaslove - 14 months is still really young. dont worry about it

owen finally got a tooth :happydance: hope he doesnt bite me whilst bf though :haha: erin never bit me and she was bf for 21 months so i'm hoping he'll be the same!

I know I probably shouldn't worry - but I keep worrying! He says "duck" now. Atleast, I say duck and he repeats it back to me and I am almost sure that is what he is saying. I don't know, should I work with him on words that are similar to duck or try words that are different?

Jacob wasn't saying anything at 14 months old! Now he's got a fair few words and occasionally puts two together now. I think its only natural to worry.

I think boys are the ones that throw themselves around and start crawling, walking and climbing first and talking comes much later whereas girls sit and watch, talk first and walk later. Thats my experience with friends babies and that!

Bit of a weird week. My step sister died on Monday of cervical cancer and my sister had her little boy on Wednesday!

Hope everyone and families are ok :flower:

babyfrance - i'm sorry to hear about your step sister :hugs: congratulations to your sister on her new arrival!

Thanks!! Its been such an emotional rollercoaster this week! My mind is officiallly boggled!!

Looking forward to 'normal' whenever that may be?!

Got a gumming and weaning baby and a teething and 'self potty training' toddler

:help:

When should I start (atleast) thinking about potty training?
The worst is yet to come I believe, its just too easy with 2 right now!

We've just had pottys around the house for a couple of months now and when he has his nappy off tell him to go on his potty.

This last week every morning he's gone to the potty. Few accidents but we're not properly trying as he isn't always sure when he's going if that makes sense? Maybe another week or so with the potty around and then we'll try properly!

with dylan and erin i potty trained them the spring/summer after they were 2. erin got the hang of it straight away but dylan pooed in his pants for a few months as he refused to poo in the toilet :dohh: we got there in the end though! will try with owen the summer after this one when he's 2 but if he's not ready will wait a bit.

I have started to really worry about Joseph's talking now.
He still has a pacifier, and someone actually pointed out that at his age he "should" be talking more. :|

Really kind of made me feel crap, as I know we should be getting rid of the pacifier but it just has not happened yet.

don't feel bad. my son was over 3 when we made him ditch the pacifier and erin is weaning off hers now at 3 years of age. they both speak fine. kids develop at different rates so don't worry too much and boys also tend to take longer than girls :hugs:
