comfort feeding

Recently, my LO wants to be on the breast all night. It cant be for nourishment so it must be for comfort. He wakes all the time making needy noises and wants the boobie. If he's asleep so I unlatch him he'll mew and work himself up until I pop him back on. A pacifier is no match for boobie it seems.

He used to be a great sleeper, just waking for feeds, but this has gone out the window in the last week.

Should I try and get him comforted another way ? (Its hard to have him on my chest all night, I can't get comfy!!!) or should I comfort him when he needs comforting? I hate the idea I might be abandoning him if he genuinely needs extra comfort and reassurance for some reason....
Is this a passing phase or is he just being overly fussy?
Reasons for this sudden clingyness may include weaning, recent illness or the fact he noticed we were sleeping in another room (althoguh this went really well for the first week or two).
Or could this be a frequent thing babies go through at 5 months? He's also extra clingy by day and wants constant attention.

Any ideas ladies?

Personally id find some other way to comfort him... Thats just my opinion though, nighttime is sleeptime and should be instilled, unless they really do need to eat.
