My LO is 19 months and has always slept as follows;
Cot with fitted base sheet + a cellular blanket (doubled over in half). No pillow.
Vest + sleep suit/pjs

So far so good. But recently I've started to notice the blanket doubled over is getting to short on him now. So I could simply unfold it and add another blanket or top sheet the same size, but that got me thinking perhaps I could get him a quilt instead. But when is it ok for LO to have quilts?? The cellar blankets have the little holes so there are breatheable right? Also does he need a pillow soon too? And if I'm buying a quilt should I get one that would be suitable for a junior bed, save having to buy another one when he moves into a bed. Also would he still need the vest under a quilt? :dohh:

What do/did you do? Thanks x x

Paige has slept with the same things since she was 10 months old. A 4tog duvet, pillow, vest and pjs/babygro.

She is forever rolling out from under her quilt and I worry about her getting cold, especially now as she doesnt wear popper vests (no nappies anymore) so I am constantly thinking she is too cold!

I dont think a pillow is necessary and if you are buying a quilt, I would get a junior size so it will do in a cot and also the larger cotbed/toddler bed.

I dont think theres one correct answer tbh, you just need to what is best for your LO in your house :)

Too much info and not enough time eh? I feel the same sometimes. LOL.

Our LO- who is also 19mos, sleeps in well fit footsie PJs and has a few stuffed toys and one smaller blanket. We also have one fitted sheet and breathable bumpers on her crib. My niece, who is 2yrs, still sleeps in sleep sack with nothing else in her bed. So... I think you need to do what works for you and your LO. It can obviously vary ;)

I don't use a pillow- and don't plan on offering one till LO is in a toddler bed (if then). As I doubt she's know what to do with a pillow right now- and it's actually no better for her sleep this young. Plus, I'd prob just worry. LOL.

Personally, I'd forgo the top sheet. Maybe just open up the blanket and leave it at that for now. Just my two cents ;)

My lo is almost 20 months and is in a toddler bed with thin pillow and junior duvet. He wears pyjamas or sleepsuit with a vest depending on the weather.

My 18mobth has been in just a sleepsuit for a few months now. He has a duvet and pillow but usually kicks it off straight away!

At that age my lo was in a toddler bed with junior duvet and pillow, I also use duvet clips to keep it in place or he kicks it straight off. He's never worn a vest to bed just long or short sleeve pyjamas but he never feels the cold.

At that age Maria was in sleepsuit/pyjamas and a sleeping bag and a duvet (sleeping bag because she moves around so much she usually ends up on top of the duvet) and a pillow but a pillow isn't necessary at this age (I only gave her one because she kept rolling up her cellular blankets to use as pillows when she was younger)

I don't think there is one size fits all for this. You have to consider the child, the room and the temperature.

I tend to want to keep my children warmer rather than colder as they sleep much better that way.
I gave them duvets pre 12 months. I use natural fibre as they are more breathable. Neither had pillows until they were around 3 years - they got them when they first asked which was around 3years.

I basically decided on giving them a duvet because they were wrapped in so many blankets to keep them warm that it was just stupid!

Daniel is always really hot so he goes to bed in just his pants and has his duvet covering him - i think it's a 3.5tog duvet. He will sometime put his pj's on but that isn't really based on how cold it is bizarrely.
Esther is always colder: at the moment she is in a cotton vest, pj's or babygro and her duvet which i assume is a 10tog (her duvet and Daniel's are part of the same duvet and it totals 13.5tog).
In the winter she will have: wool vest, pj's or babygro, socks, woolly cardigan, 2 wool blankets and her duvet.

This works for us but won't necessarily work for others. We generally don't have the heating on in their rooms which is why they need more coverings.

At that age DS was in a single bed with a pillow and duvet and in pjs no vest.

He had a duvet and pillow from 12 months tho as he was waking up cold but kept taking his clothes off lol x

Just wanted to say thanks for all the replies! I've unfolded the blanket and added another one for now, but will buy a duvet and pillow set when he moves to a big bed. Thanks for all the tips, especially the duvet clips! x x
