so i was on the pill when i concieved, so obviously that's not all too effective for me :haha:

i have an allergy to latex so latex condoms aren't really an option and the latex free ones are just wayyyyyy too expensive for all the time ... me and OH get checked out regularly for STI's etc anyway and we haven't had a problem with being unfaithful so far ...

I was thinking about getting the patch, but i wondered what you ladies thought of it? Is it pretty good? Can you use it if you are BF? How long from starting to use it does it take effect? (is it similar to the pill in that in theory you're covered after a week but they still suggest that you're not properly covered til after the first month?

Sorry i have no idea lol, but my sister in law uses the patch and cant praise it enough and has had no problems with it. I will probly go on the pill as it helps my heavy painful periods but have also used the depo injection before which completely stopped my periods and only had to be done every 3 months

i'm doubtful about the pill because thats what i was using when i concieved this LO hehe, and i don't think you can use the full pill when you're BF either ... and i have a fear of needles so badly i won't volunteer for any ... so any options that don't involve needles definately warrant trying first hehe

i've been told i'm not allowed the implant for some reason, i can't remember why though :dohh:

I had the implant for almost six years and it was good to have that kind of peace of mind. If you're ok with hormonal then it's a good way to go. I don't want hormones this time so am thinking of getting a non hormonal coil fitted while waiting on dh to get the snip.

I've had just about every type of contraception going!lol Pill didn't work because i really am the crappest person out there and always forgot to take it, OH "doesn't like" condoms and tbh they kinda ruin the moment for me too, the injection made me bleed permanently-like a constant period and the patch was great! The only thing i didn't like, and the only reason i didn't use it is because i was put on it in the middle of summer and i didn't like wandering round the pool in bikinis with a patch on my thigh or arm! I haven't tried the coil or implant because thay sound kinda icky!lol i have a friend with the implant and it completely grosses me out, she plays with it! and a friend who had the coil and said it made her periods extra heavey. Sorry about the ramble..xx

Rules that one out then :)

I can't take anything progesterone only, depo and mini pill have disagreed with me badly, so my only option is the combined pill again, which is no good when bfing. No sex and condoms for me for a while. Which is fine as me and bub's dad aren't together now anyway!

If you don't plan on having another LO right away, I highly suggest the IUD. I had mine for 5 years and never a problem. When we decided to start trying I had it removed and was pregnant the first month we 'really tried', 3 months after removal.

I loved that I never had to think or worry about it.

I really like the patch, I got pregnant with my first on the pill :s and if I take the pill for too long I get my period everyday 365 days a year :s I have an allergy to spermicide. So I tried the patch and I really liked it. I dont know if you can use it while breast feeding, I am also looking into birth control options while feeding baby but as for the patch, it was great, you pick a day of the week and you change it the same day every week, 3 weeks on and then you take it off for a week when and you get your period. It comes with little number stickers I used to just put them right on the patches (instead of the calendar), #1 #2 #3 and then I knew it was time to take it off for a week. I used to put it on my butt so no one but my hubby ever saw it, it doesnt "look" great since its like a bandaid and does get fluff and such from your clothes stuck on it. I alternate sides every week, and you can put it on your thighs too in the winter when your not worried about anyone seeing it.
I had no issues on it and was using it for our birth control method for 5 years, I came off it 2 months before TTC and got pregnant our 2nd month trying.
Oh also, I believe it is affective right away when you put it on.....pretty sure it says that on the box but its been awhile since I used it ;)

I have a latex allergy, and was allergic to the patch. I still have square shaped scars on my legs.

I will be having the coil fitted asap. My mum has one and I've heard good things about it. Plus, its not somethng you really have to worry about. I was on the pill and forgot it constantly.

its kinda easy, and you only have to remember it once a week not everyday too so makes things easier too :) well least i think it does ... i'm just hoping i can use it while BF as its probably the easiest option for me hehe

I have terrible problems with contraception, the hormones send my crohns disease mad. This is my 2nd child and i don't want any more so hopefully my dh will be having the snip, i figure i've had enough pain, it's his turn now!!

my contraception is to never have sex!!

got pregnant on pill and condoms...two forms of contraception so cant risk it again lol x

I've had both the depo & noristerat injections in the past & they worked fine for me. I found the noristerat to be better for me. I'm considering going back on it after our son is born until hubby has the snip.

I was on depo for ages and had problem after problem with it, then went on to combi pill which was fine. Afetr DS I had mini pill, I breastfeed and the only pill available is progesterone only (think depo is progesterone only too) I hated it. It made me soooo moody, I took it for about 2months before stopping it

I hadnt heard of the patch till I read your post so I Googled it and found this site: https://www.patient.co.uk/health/Contraceptive-Patch.htm

I'm not sure I would be allowed to have it as they took me off my combined pill due to being overweight. I really hate my pill as it is difficult to keep track of my periods as they become very irregular. Drs say they cant/wont do anything cos thats just how that hormone works :(

the site does say this about breastfeeding though...
"If you are breastfeeding you should not use the contraceptive patch as it can reduce the amount of milk that you produce. Other forms of contraception are available if you are breastfeeding. You should not use the contraceptive patch if you are, or you think you may be, pregnant."

I'd ask ur dr about it with breastfeeding, they may still say its fine. I'm gonna ask if I can use it but I doubt they will say yes :(
