Is anyone registered to do cordblood? With are daughter we did it and after a lot of thought we registered under the payment plan they offer for are second baby. This time they are offering tissue too we did not have that option the first time around. Is anyone else doing cordblood?

We'll probably go with delayed clamping but we still have about 20 weeks to decide.

We donated it last time and they signed us up at the hospital when I was in labour. I had planned to do it already and had the sticker on my notes.

I'll be donating this baby's cord blood too. I know a lot of mums believe in delayed cord clamping these days, but if my baby's cord blood can save a life, then to me that's more important than avoiding the possible risk that they may be jaundiced for a few days.

My son was never jaundiced though; maybe if he had been then I would feel differently.

I'm talking about CPR Cordblood.com for your child I'm thinking we are on two different conversations lol.

We did it with our daughter and are doing it again this time. Haven't decided yet if we will do tissue also this time. I need to look into the benefits of it before making a decision.

We were not sure about the tissue but after research talking to the company we decided to do it. I hope this time my husband does not almost forget to call the number after its done! I could have kicked his butt lol!

It can only be done at 6 hospitals in the UK, and we're nowhere near any of them so it's not really a consideration. If it could be done where we deliver I would definitely donate it, but I wouldn't bank it as I think it's of more use to other people than the very remote chance it could be used for my own kids given that cord blood has never been used again in the child it was taken from.

Anthony Nolan also collects at 8 different hospitals in the UK, so if you're not near an NHS one you might still be able to donate.

I was going to donate my babies cord blood but I was given a pamphlet at my doctors office stating how you would qualify and It looks like I won't :( says you couldn't have taken any medication at all during pregnancy and I had quite a bit due to surgery and being put under. :(

I am doing a homebirth and delayed clamping so I am out. If I could do delayed clamping and was going to hospital I would really consider it.

We are going to donate. Chances of my baby requiring the exact match for a future disorder that may arise is quite slim. So we thought having the cells used for research now would be better use out of it.

My little brother passed away after a brief battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma in October last year. He would have had a stem cell transplant if he'd survived longer.
I'm giving birth at a hospital in the UK that does collect cord blood, and I will definitely be donating. I'd much rather it go to someone in need, than be saved just in case my child should ever need it. I just wish it was common practice in all UK hospitals, and an opt out instead of an opt in thing.

I would have no issue to it if it was a standard thing and an opt out rather than something to faff about and opt in, however my placenta and cord will be taken for research as I'm on a research project through pregnancy

Research is cracking too! It seems to be incredibly simple, no harm to mum or baby, not invasive, I can't wrap my head around why they don't just take it anyway.
