Thank you Hayley - We have read everything we could on FSIDs and similar to make sure we can do as much as possible to prevent against SIDS, and we have little Alex's legacy to thank for that. We also pass it on to others where we could see unsafe sleep practices.

I am sure your little hero has saved countless babies lives. Love to Alex and Daisy

I sometimes think people go looking for an excuse to be offended. You only have to use your brain and think, this is a topic that is going to provoke an emotional response from someone in Hayley's position, so even if she had been rude (which I don't think she was), I think you just have to forgive.

Sticking my oar in too - I did all the reasearch on SIDS I could as i went through the trimesters with Hayley and Daisy and thanks to little Alex and his legagy I knew what was best to do and what was best NOT to do.

Dont apologise EVER Hayley for publicising and shouting and doing every bloody thing you can to let us ALL know about it - we can NEVER know too much.

I never used a cot bumper with any of my kids.

I always thought there was a risk of SIDS so they were a no-no.

Like Hayley wrote education is the key, people need to be told about the risks to our children.

It is taboo but sadly it happens everyday 17 babies go to sleep and they dont wake up for various reasons

Infant loss is a very emotive subject and tbh i dont see why anyone should be offended, like Hayley said if she can educate just 1 person about SIDS then Alex's death was not in vain.

RE: Cot Bumpers, I use them, like some of the other girls said, i tuck them into the mattress too. My LO tends to knock her head on the cot bars and she had a brain haemorrage at birth, so im kinda eeeeeek when it comes to her wee head. But I wouldnt use them for solely decorative value.

people dont look to be offended by their babies death bit silly to say we go out our way to hurt ourselves, because tbh the pain never eases and its constant, so we purposely dont go out to find more hurt

got one for my crib and cot and wish i hadnt bothered i have taken it off for fear of sids, it can inhibit air circulation, and sids has been associated with over heating as for moses basket we have one without a hood and its wicker so have great air circulation and when they get bigg they will pull them off any way

so no , i wouldnt bother at all i would get a cot wih solid ends so just has bars along the side like this -

How is a cot bumper any different to say the sides of a Moses basket, which we put babies in when they are most at risk from SIDS?

The average age of a SIDS victim is around 5 months old, by this time they are too big for a moses basket.

Young babies who sleep in moses baskets usually can't move around enough for the sides to be a suffocation risk.

I really really wasnt having a go at the lady, I mean about society and how they do not educate mothers as well as they could, its like SANDS, lots of people dont know about that charity, its not the peoples fault, just that baby deaths is a tabboo subject in this country iykwim?. Im truely(sp) sorry about your loss. I Followed your posts throughout your pregnancy with daisy but i never had the guts to post cos i didint know what to say. You are such a brave woman to go what you have gone through x x x

This isnt a 'dig' at you at all but I find it very shocking you dont know what SIDS is - just shows how well informed we are of one of the highest killers for infants!!! xxx

My little boy died from SIDS Sudden Infant Death Syndrome - its a lame cause of death, it basically means they dont know why the baby has died. It most commonly happens at night when the baby is sleeping, but can happen anywhere, carseat, even in your arms etc.

I'm genuinly(sp) sorry to hear about your son but yes, I am a little offended... Because I was unsure of what a couple of letters stood for? I've obviously heard of ICD but wasn't too sure of SIDS. Sorry that i'm not so 'informed' as yourself or 'with it' with slang. I just didn't know what the intials stood for, however I do know what it is.

i dont think there is anything to be offended about, Hayley was commenting on the fact that there is clearly a lack of info out there about SIDS, she wasnt slagging you off personally for not recognising the term. Hayleys son died. i think your use of the dohhh smiley was a little inappropriate, as was your comment about her being 'with it' re slang. its not slang, its the thing that killed her beautiful amazing first born son, a little sensitivity wouldnt go amiss.

The doh wasnt aimed at her son. It was aimed at me not knowing what the intials stood for. And I was showing compassion. I said i was sorry to hear about her son. Yes its awful and i really do feel for her and her family.

sorry, but i still stand by my post, and wouldnt dream of making such a reply to someone who was trying to raise awareness of something which causes her son, and far too many other beautiful little babies to lose their lives.
regardless of what precisely you were aiming the 'dohhh' at, the use of the smilie is flippant, and dismissive, in MY opinion.
perhaps, 'im genuinely sorry to hear about your son' would have been enough, its the 'BUT.............' that comes after it.
i dont think people are jumping on the bandwagon as you say. Hayley has been a member here for a long time, so people know her well, and know of baby Alex, i know, having done the balloon thing for them, its a subject close to my heart, i, and many many others on here think of Hayley, Richard, Daisy and little Alex very often. i think its more a case of us speaking up about something we feel strongly about, and that is close to our hearts, than bandwagon jumping.

i think thats a bit of paranoia there tbh... i dont see any ganging up, and i dont think anyone is trying to make you feel small, its just a case of everyone being entitled to their opinion. in almost every topic, there will be a proportion of posters who share a certain opinion, or viewpoint, and are as entitled to express it as anyone else is, its not ganging up, its just a majority opinion? its not like we are all meeting up in secret and deciding to go about picking on certain people or certain posts, apart from Hayley i dont even really know any of the others who are 'sharing my viewpoint' on this thread!

I do, just a fairly plain one, mind you our cot is absolutely huge and he can't move yet so I'm not sure how I will feel about it when he can.
