Hello,

LO has been on cow and gate comfort since 2 weeks and has been fine but cow and gate have had issues with the supplies and we can not get cow and gate comfort currently, i recall my health visitor telling me that cow and gate comfort and aptamil comfort are exactly the same (just aptamil is more expensive).
We have had no choice but to buy aptamil comfort as we were low on cow and gate (enough left for about three feeds). Aptamil comfort is also low in stock in most stores now as i think many cow and gate users are having to go to aptamil.

cow and gate said normal stock levels should be in place by mid march.
as i say i have no choice but to feed LO the apatmil comfort when i run out of cow and gate. I have checked the ingrediants side by side and they are the same (unless i am missing something) the fact that the ingrediants are the same would support what my health visitor said about them being the same. (not that i don't believe her)

I am just a neurotic first time mum that is worried switching his milk is going to harm him..... someone please reassure me he will be okay.

He will be absolutely fine :)

Im pretty sure that the comfort versions of C&G and Aptamil are exactly the same thing. If there is a slight difference then the Aptamil comfort will be more like C&G comfort that anything other milk. Even if you changed to a completely different first milk or comfort milk (like SMA Comfort or something) it wont harm him at all. xxx

They are both the same as they are made by the same people... only difference is aptamil costs more x

Yeah they are both the same, I did the same switch myself at 4 weeks and she was fine :)

Am I the only one who cannot find either brand anywhere?? We have finally got our boy settled on comfort milk when we try to switch back all hell breaks loose and now we can't get it :( sold out at all local shops and online

No there seems to be a shortage, sainsburys yesterday had no cow and gate comfort and no aptamil comfort either..... People clearly realise they are both the same and have stocked up ;we brought three tubs the other day as it was the fifth place i tried to get milk so i was determined to stock up..... Hope you can find some milk x x

Just looked on amazon and they have aptamil comfort but its double the normal price.

I really hope stock levels return soon otherwise there are goung to be some very hungry babies

You could always try the SMA comfort milk if you cannot find the other 2 anywhere. It will be more gentle on their tummies than regular formula. xxx

Thanks :) I bought the SMA in the end as thats all they had and I'm hoping that's the same too. Next time I see any I will stock up too. Going to traipse around a few places tomorrow I think.

omg im soo glad you asked this. We have been trying to get C&G comfort for 7 days now with no luck. at the mo we are using hungry as hv advise us to try and get lo onto that but it has given him a right upset tummy :(

Ah poor LO, i would try and get any version of a comfort milk since it will be kinder on his tummy. I am suprised your health visitor suggested going to hungry milk straight from comfort as i was told we should wean liitle one gently to normal milk as the comfort has a lot less lactose compared to normal milk...... However i guess if you can't get any comfort milk then any milk is better than none. Hopefully stock levels will return soon, but when we run out of comfort milk we will use colief in normal milk if needed as colief does the same job as comfort milk (it's just quite expensive)

I was supprised 2 when she said it. but i think the reason was, was that our lo was only upping his bottle insted of dropping them. he got up to having 20-24 odd bottles of 150ml in 24hours !! We where told also to interduce the hungry slowly by starting with one bottle of the hungry a day for a week and then add bottles from there. this we have only just started :(

We try finding some more comfort today but had no luck with any of them. we have also end up calling all our friends and family who are all over the uk to keep an eye out for some for us lol.

Gosh the shortage is awful.... i am kind of glad we got a couple of tubs when we finally found some, but they will only last another 2 weeks and then goodness knows what we will do. i don't want to switch him back to normal milk 'cold turkey', i think if it still looks like there may be a shortage as we near the end of ouir mik i will start mixing his bottles ... ie 4 ounce aptamil comfort and 2 ounce normal aptamil for a few days and then slowly increase the normal apatamil so he no longer needs the comfort... though i am not sure if this is an effect way to do it, guess i may discuss it with the health visitor.

I asked my hv about mixing the bottles like that but she did not recomend we did that. it would be interesting to see what your hv thinks about it.

most times i buy a months worth at a time so i can avoid things like this but last time i picked some up they only had 2 tubs at the time.....i know i should of looked round at other places for it then :dohh:

My lo tummy seem alittle better today but he is trying to cut his second bottom tooth at the mo and i think we are at a beginning of a growth spurt as the little bugger wants to feed every 30mins today

wow your baby already has a tooth :flower:. I will see what HV says about mixing the milk, but i am really hoping it won't come to that and that they get some in stock soon. I just can't see that switching straight back to normal formula will be that good for him.

I really hope it is back soon too, i keep checking supermarkets and chemists each time i go near one.

His first tooth only cut his gums about 3 days ago so it its not fully in yet. The other tooth next to it is very close to cutting. We told hv about it and she first told us that we where wrong as they dont start teething untill around 6 months. needless to say she was shocked when she had a feel and then comformed that it was a tooth !! haha silly hv. :haha: She also said it will prob take a few weeks before they are fully in. my lo started teething at 2 months old.

I contacted C&G again yesterday and they told me they are not sending anymore comfort out to shops untill mid March! grrr im so angry with them, they have not even bothered to let people know what happen unless you contact them.

i manage to fine some SMA comfort yesterday so ive stocked up on that. my lo seems to be getting on ok on it, but i find it is not as thick as the C&G so have had to change my bottle teats back to first flow.

Hope you all have manage to find some for your lo :)

I wonder if this is the same for Aptamil comfort too?, this is awful......well i guess LO will be switched to normal formula soon once we run out of comfort.
I am personally not keen on using SMA but only because some friends did not rate it (but that was the normal sma and not the comfort.

I had a friend who had a problem with the sma first to. she also did not recomended it so i never tryed. my thought was, now that my lo is 17 weeks he maybe ok on it. so im giving it a try. so far he is doing ok on it and i not even seen him spit up yet and he is a happy spitter and spits up all day long lol.

I think it is worth a try if you cant fine the others.

I dont know about the Aptamil but hear it is made by the same people, so that may run out to. I do know that it is flying of the self very fast, it may be best to look for it as soon as shops open to be one of the first to get it. Thats what i did to get the SMA and i grabed all the tins they had (which was only 4. covering me for 3 weeks). hopefuly shops have got smart and are only putting a few tins out each day so that everyone gets a chance at getting some. it is awful :(
