LO is 5 weeks and i cant seem to get in to a routine with feeding, bath, bed etc does everyone have a routine or just go with the flow of the day?

Im hoping to establish one by the time he is three months but find it hard as still getting used to breastfeeding and it takes a while for him to settle when first put to bed.

Do you put your LO to bed in evening upstairs in their MB or cot or let them sleep downstaires till you go up to bed?? (im talking more 0-3 month babies)

i never set down a "routine" with my baby. she's 12 weeks, and fell into a natural routine on her own. i always kept her out in the living room with me until she fell asleep and i was ready for bed. now she usually is asleep for the night around 9ish, so i take her into my bedroom and feed her in bed around 8:30 when she gets hungry. she falls asleep while nursing and i transfer her over to her bed.

at 5 weeks there's no way i could have set a routine with her, she was all over the place and eating so often! there was no point in making a "bedtime" with her because she was up to eat every 2 hours at night anyway!

imo, parent's should not try to "establish a routine" with a baby. rather, let the baby set his/her own routine. they will fall into a natural pattern, and YOU just adjust yourself around it.

thanks i know if i was to put him upstairs to bed id be up and down all the time (be fit tho) :)

i keep wilson in the living room with me till he falls asleep, it used to be around 11pm but in the last few weeks its nearer 9pm. hes 10 weeks old

I started a nighttime routine with Soph when she started getting grizzly around the same time each night. About 6.30pm.. Now we go up around 6.15/6.30 for a bath, wrap her in a warmed up towel (or she'll scream :haha:) and then I rub her with lotion and we relax a bit. Then for the last feed at 6.45pm and then asleep about 7.15..

There was no point doing this before she put herself in this routine though! I do this whole routine upstairs and let her sleep upstairs, as down here she'd only be disturbed by us a lot as it's light and noisy. Upstairs it's nice and calm and dark. I do have a baby monitor with camera and she's old enough now to sleep untill at least 11pm when we go to bed ourselves usually.
Also, it might sounds selfish, but this give hubby and me about 3 hours to spend together and have a cuddle and talk etc :)!

She just goes into her cot to watch her mobile when she starts to look sleepy! And within about 15mins she is snoozing! I just let her be the boss hahah¬
