DD set on a name OH hates!

plain and simply I would use the name you and your OH picked... your daughter can name her OWN child ruby if she still likes that name in 20 years time

you said both you and OH dont even like the name plus everyone you know thinks its chavvy so why are you considering labelling a child for life of is what is most likely a spur of the moment fad in your other childs life (my DS really wanted a brother called Wilson a year ago and now doesnt even remember lol)

Why don't you try letting her pick out a new doll or a bear when baby is due and when Suzie comes home Ruby comes too as a present for her from her baby sister. It might distract her from wanting to call her sister it if she has her ruby as well as her sister.

After a concerted effort, DD hasn't mentioned the name Ruby for a week, and refers to the baby as Suzie. I'm so pleased! I didn't think she'd drop it so easily. Especially after OH went along with the name Ruby for so long before finally admitting he didn't like it. I really had come to love the name. We might still keep it in as a middle name; we still haven't decided about that. If DD has completely dropped it, there seems little point including it as an extra middle name.

I'd get her a gift of a doll from the new baby for when she's born and tell your DD the baby is called Suzie but the doll is called Ruby.

she will forget in a few weeks if not hours lol and pick a name that you and your fella like and she will get over it (I know you are picking a different one anyways) no need to be delicate about it she is a child and won't care lol

edit:just seen your reply. ... glad she dropped it quick :)

I believe that young children have intuitive abilities. She knows her sister's name. You two can argue it out as long as you want, but that baby's name is Ruby.

Guess I should have gone with the name my son chose for my daughter then, Pussy Meow he he!
