I forgot to take the prawns from the freezer today and the packet say to let them defrost for 8 hours.

I don't fancy eating at midnight and my dad said I can defrost them by running cold water on them in a sieve for 5 mins.

Is he crazy?

Is that food poisoning waiting to happen?

Its the way iv always done it and never had a problem

Really???

Do i just run the tap on them then constantly for 5 mins?

Do I need to serve them immediately?

Thats fine and keep them in fridge covered until served but only for about 4hrs x

thats the way iv always done it never remember to take them out lol

The other day I put water in a dish and poured some prawns in and left them for about a minute then drained them and let them defrost further for about an hour:thumbup:

Thanks all, i defrosted them with cold water and they were yummy!

Yep thats how i do it too but i tend to leave the water running foe a little longer!

This is interesting as Ive always put them in a sandwich bag and then put them in water like that (keeping the prawns seperate in the bag) I might try it your way if its quicker as my way takes about an hour
