I was thinking today... When should LO start to see a dentist??

Or how old was your LO when he/she started to see the dentist?

Should you take them for check ups at young ages???

Sorry im a tad clueless.

i was thinking of this too! maddi only has two teeth, but i was thinking maybe once she's a year or so i would take her x

I registered my baby today when I was in making an appointment for myself.

He is 7 1/2 months.

The receptionist said to bring him the next time I'm going just to get him used to it, so that would be when he is just over one probably. I will prob take him this time though too.

Advice is as soon as they got teeth Paige had her first appointment around 12months, She was literally in there for 30secs didn't even come out of her pram, i would just arrange a appointment when you see the dentist next .

I've read your should take them if they are one year old AND have atleast eight teeth.
I need to make Colton an appointment, he has ten teeth!

But I've heard they just look, and if your baby wont let them hold their mouth open then they should just try getting them to talk, etc so they can peek and thats pretty much it. :D

I was told 12 months so they can see if they're growing in well.

I was told when they get a couple of teeth ...

Caitlins not been yet but when I get my teeth checked after pregnancy I will register her at the same time.

We were told by a year of age they should have seen the dentist :)

Dec got reg. with my dentist at 5 weeks old, Dan had an appointment so I took Dec along and got him Reg. He has been about 7 times now, he had his own appointment when he was 11 months old he even had a little ride on the seat !!!! In the UK they can be reg with a dentist from birth.

Rhiannon is registered, my dentist told me to bring her evertime i have an appointment to get her used to the place, but that he wont look until she has all her teeth (around her 2nd birthday) he said children under that age very rarely open their mouths...

he did inquire after her diet though and gave me tips on how to brush her teeth.. especially when teething and wont put anything in her mouth...(calpol, me brushing my teeth the same time, saying im going to brush them softly etc)

There is no rules about when children should first be seen, but we always try to encourage parents to take there child along with them to their dental check up appontments and attend as a family unit. It then gets them use to the experiance, smell, setting and dentist. Even if the dentist doesn't have a good luck it good for them to have a ride on the chair and a feel of gloves etc... They should also be able to give advice on diet and brushing.
I work in the community/hospital dental enviroment and deal mainly with children reffered in from other local practices. Unfortunately the main thng we have to deal with is nervous children and children with a vast amount of decay which most will need to have a general anaesthetic for! Lexie is off with mummy and daddy next week for her first offical visit at 3 months old!!!!! Can you tell i'm paranoid about her teeth already and there not even through!!!!
