Desperate for help! My baby won't take a bottle!!!!

Sorry if this offends but i cant believe how selfish you are! You baby will be a very hungry upset baby if you go away they not only feed from the boob they comfort suck and this calms them. With his mummy gone and also no boob for 7 days im sure it will break his heart. Like i said sorry if this upset or offends but i had to say something!

LOL you make me laugh

Honestly hun, i was desperate and then it all came right when I left him for the day. Is there anyway you could leave him with his grandma for a day before you go?

Cause our babies are supposed to be attached to our boobs 24/7. Didn't you know that? :haha:

Glad to hear he's taking the cup. I'm sure he'll be fine at bedtimes :)

I've just got to let go. My mom raised 4 kids, she is fabulous with babies.... Surely she will be fine with her grandson for a week!

Bella downright refused a bottle. We tried for 2-3 months consistantly and she would just bite on it and not suck out of it. We gave up and went to a sippy cup with a straw instead and we got along much better with it.

Some of the people's comments on here are just silly and downright ridiculous.

She will be fine with LO. In the end I just said to myself that if I had died (heaven forbid) Teddy wouldn't starve himself to death too just because he couldn't breastfeed. It will be fine.

I dont have any advice about the bottle feeding but I did pick up a tip from someone if you are going to be away. Wear a t-shirt or something for like a week before you go so it has a really good smell of you and leave that with your Mum so she can perhaps hold it close to him when feeding him...it may help him relax of he can still smell you :flower: x

Fabulous idea, thank you.

And......HE TOOK A BOTTLE!!!! It didn't have breastmilk in it, it was mainly water with a little apple juice, but I'm thrilled as it's a start!! He kept reaching for it and putting it in his mouth himself! :wohoo: :happydance:
I'm going to make sure he has this bottle at all times now.. In the car, the stroller, etc. And of all bottles, he picks the blue funny shaped no brand cookie monster sesame street one, lol!! Yeah!!!

Is it a good or bad thing that he has been taking a bottle with water in it? He wont take it with milk but goes vrazy over it with water and drinks out of it like a champ! Will he probably take it with milk from someone other than me? Its not the bottle he hates, yay!

here's what i have learned after going back to work a month ago--a hungry baby will eventually eat. i went back to work last month when O turned 5 months, and O had taken bottles before but she went on strike that first week, she was mostly breastfed. she would wait for me to get home but get too hungry in the process and eventually she'd guzzle like 6 oz from a bottle...from DH, from me, from sitter...she was hungry hungry at that point. longest time she went that first week was about 5 hours in the day before relenting to the bottle. by the 2nd and 3rd weeks she was taking 4 oz bottles every 3 hours or so...i always nursed down for naps and bedtime too and her new sitter started last week coming to the house and she took a bottle from her while laying on top of the bed and fell asleep. sitter moved her to the swing and she took her nap. she consistently falls asleep for DH at naptime with a bottle. baby's are adaptable. stick with it, he'll be fine and most of all

ENJOY YOUR BREAK!!! :happydance: soak up a little sunshine for me and sleep sleep sleep  :) Brady will be fine and he's in good hands with his grandma. :flower:

i agree too about have a bottle as you are nursing swap him mid feed quickly and smoothly--that helped O a great deal, and also i had a bottle ready at one of her night feeds when she was sleepy and hungry--she took it because she wasn't awake enough to care.

Have you had any luck? Like you, my husband and I are going away for a month and my 8 month old son refuses to take the bottle. I've tried 4-5 different bottles, The latest one called mimijumi -resembles mommy's boob; but still doesnt work. I think I'm gonna try giving him the bottle at the same time everyday and see If that will work. I'm desperate .

My son is an has been exclusively breastfed all along. We gave him the occasional bottle when he was a few weeks old just so I could get some sleep and my husband could feed him and give me some sleep. Once my supply regulated and he started sleepibg better, we stopped giving him a bottle.

Problem is, we need him to start taking one again! We are headed on a vacation to Hawaii for 7 days and my mother will be watching him and he needs to take a bottle. We've been trying for the past week or more with no luck.. He screams and throws a royal fit every time we try to give him expressed milk. We've tried 4 different kinds of bottles...

Anyone had this problem or had success getting a 6 month old breastfed baby to take a bottle??

Please HELP!!!

At 8 months, just use a cup :) I'm assuming your baby is weaned, right?

Hi there,
How did you do this?? I need help! My son turns 8 months in 4 days and I still have no luck with the bottle or sippy cup. He will drink water out of a cup like an adult but that's it.

And same with your LO, I nurse my monkey to sleep as well, he can't fall asleep on his own.

Leave him with someone for a day and I bet you he'll take a bottle by the end of it...can you leave him with your mum or a close friend?

He's not weaned yet. Still b/f and eats very little solids (he throws up 2 hrs after he eats solids - waiting to see pediatrician. I just ordered the doidy cup online, maybe I will give it a try when I get it. My husband is away for another two weeks, maybe when he comes back I will leave the baby with him and grandma for a day. I'm amazed how much he knows already and will not take anything. Hopefully he will give in if I'm not around the entire day (we tried where I hid in the room for 1 1/2 before and he cried and cried so we gave in as by that time he'd gone4 hrs w/o milk)

My son protested for the first day and a half. He had never taken a bottle from me and after that, he took it from both grandmas like a champ. They said he was drinking up to 8oz at night before bed by the third day. They are smart. Once they realize that mom REALLY isn't around, they'll give in. EspecuLly if they want what's in the bottle. Good luck!!

Thanks so much. I'm going to try and stop breastfeeding cold turkey starting next week. 1 1/2 day is awfully long, did you offer him the breast at all? I feel I have to leave the house and leave him with my husband and mother in law, otherwise it might not work. My son took a few sips of formula from a straw cup a couple of days ago, so I guess we will try both straw cup and bottle when we start "quitting the breast day"
And your little one was ok when you guys left for Hawaii for a week?

yep.. he did just fine. I had a huge stock of frozen milk stored up and once his strike was over, he drank breastmilk from a bottle no problem. I pumped the whole time I was there and when I got back, he took back to nursing no probem! It was great!

Aw glad it worked out & hope you had fun :)
Trying to wean my LO off bfing. i nurse til drowsy and he gets really angry when i try and give him a bottle!
