detailed scan to check for markers for downs

hi i seen consultant yesterday and have got a dtailed scan booked for a week weds to check for defects/markers for downs as bloods come back high risk..the waiting is painfull
is there anyone else in same situation or anyone had similar scan..

Hi hon, I was given a 1-50 risk for DS and declined a CVS or Amnio... so had the same agonising wait for a detailed scan at 20 weeks...

We had a fantastic sonographer and she was very patient and spent a lot of time showing us various areas they look at for soft markers - length of femur, bowels, heart, brain.. we found it very reassuring as no soft markers were present (even though it doesnt rule DS out completely). I found having to make a decision about further testing the most stressful part of the whole situation (had to be prescribed beta blockers because I was getting really bad stress related heart palpatations!) and of course the wait from 13 weeks until the detailed scan at 20 weeks was by far the worst part of my pregnancy..

My little girl is due next weekend and although it is slighlty at the back of my mind, I am now very confident she is going to be fine... you have to try and keep a positive frame of mind, even though it is really difficult especially as you have only just had the news...

Hi girls, i'm in the same boat as i have my 20 week scan a week on thursday and have been given 1 in 85 chance of having a baby with downs. What are they looking for on the scan? Good luck to everyone in the same boat! xxx

Hi, I was given a 1:89 risk based on nuchal (2.8mm) and then 1:270 after the bloods were taken into account.

I declined amnio and had a 16 week detailed scan, normal 20 week anomoly scan and a 20 week detailed heart scan. I've also had a 28 week growth scan (more at 32 and 36 weeks) and everything has been fine

They are looking for markers such as white spots or holes in the heart, bowel problems, fluid in kidneys, there are several others but can't thnk of them off the top of my head

Hi, I had this scan at 13 weeks as the blood test for downs doesn't work with twins!! They look for a variety of markers but the two they seemed to concentrate on were the amount of fluid at the back of the neck and also the formation of the nose. Good luck with the scan x

scan went well and his heart and organs looked fine..got another scan in 3weeks to check growth as diabetic..

I have to have growth scans too, love it and it means they can check baby over again

my last 2 babies have been high risk but my daughter is now an extremley bright 2 year old and lil man looked perfect on the scan as we didnt want amnio its hard but i would try and relax now youve had the scan xxx

I'm having this scan nuchual scan in 3 weeks time and bloods because im high risk insulin dep diabetic.

I jst know they measure the neck fold or something??

Got my 20 week scan booked also and a cardio scan same day. Am dreading them.

did they say there was a connection with diabetes then? as i was told there wasnt as they are congenital and nothing else..thanks emma x

I presume so, the obs dr said i was higher risk cause am diabetic, previous probs in pregnancy and my age although not high (34) with others things puts me into higher risk.
