I'm really torn if I want to wean my LO in order to TTC. Anyone out there have luck dropping a feeding (maybe formula night feedings) for ovulation to begin back up? I wouldn't do this for another month or so but just wanted to see of anyone out there has done this

I did start FF when we started TTC #2. My main concern was that continuing to pump was sending the wrong signal to my brain and making my cycles irregular (between 28-34 days with ZERO EWCM or other indicators), and that it would somehow confuse my uterus and not let anything implant. I started supplementing expressed milk with formula at 6 months, and by 8.5 months I'd weaned completely. At 8 months we started trying and conceived. 5 days after my BFP I pumped my last bottle. I had some nasty clogs, constant let-downs once the PG hormones started to hit, but eventually my boobies deflated.

BTW, my period came back at 3 months PP though, so I'd had quite a few cycles to wake my body back up from pregnancy.

I should add that everything I've read says there's no need to wean if you become pregnant, though. Apparently your supply will just dwindle on its own. I forced myself to wean, but I probably could have continued pumping.

Thanks wantsalittle! I've been giving night bottles with expressed milk because its easier to pump then feed at night, for me. I knew BFing would be hard but I didn't realize that it would be hard to give up

Oh it's so hard. I cried when I noticed my supply going down, and again when I realized that I was feeding my daughter her last bottle of expressed milk. This is the liquid gold that got her through the NICU, that made her strong. It was my connection to her. Breastfeeding, and breastmilk, is a very emotionally charged substance :)

It really is, I didn't realize it but I like being the sole supporter of my baby's food and they look so cute when they eat!
