Dissapointing Scan--- UPDATE ^_^

Hi Ladies,

Today I went to my first scan, and it wasn't good news at all... the doctor couldn't find the fetus or its heartbeat although I am 7 weeks now, she booked an appointment for me after 2 weeks but I am very nervous and scared.. she said the baby might be too small!! also she said their is a tiny amount of bleed inside and I might bleed either brown (which would be ok) or red which I have to head to the hospital immediately

Did this ever happened to anyone? Should I be worried??

My friend was 7+ weeks and they had to use 3 different machines to find hers and everything was fine... I think they had to use an internal scanner for her and even then it took them a while.

It was external... and I believe she had old scan machine... Any way thanks for the response, you made me feel better.. really

I will go to another doctor by tonight... I wish I hear better news

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this exact thing happened to me THIS WEEK!

WOW, i even made a post with a similar title.
So basically, after saying i had a 4 week fetus at 7w they sent me to get my HCG levels tested. In 48 hours they dropped by 100 and my doctor had me come the next day for a scan. I went to the expensive machine i think.. looked way better

i didn't even need a transvaginal, i had a transabdominal and i saw peanut with a heart beat.

i freaked out over nothing. My suggestion to you is, chill out, have faith and be merry.
I'm sure baby will show up in two weeks.

oh yea, i was set a week and 3 days back according to the measurement of u/s.

I had an internal scan at 7 weeks. Dr saw nothing but a sac and said come back in a week but prepare that there's no baby. Went back at 8 weeks and saw my lovely baby! Am now 17 weeks and all is great. It does happen. The waiting in between the scans is the hardest i know. Both my scans were internal.

I think scanning that early can just have so many problems. The machine might be too weak, the sonographer might be undertrained or have a bad day, baby might be in a weird position, your bladder might be too empty (or too full!)... There could be so many reasons why they didn't find your baby just yet. So as others said, try to have hope and relax. Hope you get good news really soon!

They should have done a vaginal scan. I had a vaginal and we saw baby clearly at 7 weeks. When she did an external 5 mins after and she couldn't see a thing! 7 weeks is too early for an external.

FarFar - Go to the Pregnancy After Loss Spring Thread and read up on Amos2009. She has had this happen and her scan shows a heartbeat now. She's been through a lot but baby is still there.

Can't wait to hear what you see next time, I'm pretty sure it was just too early for an external scan for you (or a cheaper machine than some).

an external at 7 weeks?? I am in the US and my Dr. does internal scans till at least 9 weeks as it is so hard to see anything from outside... I am a bigger lady so they will do internals on me till probably 13 weeks... also you could have a tilted uterus which makes it harder to see as well I have one

Hope its all ok, 7 weeks is very early.

All these early scans just make people worry sick. The same thing happened to me at a 5 week scan...being my first i didnt know what to expect! I never should have been sent for the scan so early in the first place! xo

I'm with the other ladies - I can't believe they did an external that early. Even if it's measuring a bit small, it could easily be that your dates are off. Not a big deal.

One way or another, in the mean time, there's nothing that can be done, so it's best for you and baby try not to stress!

Thank you all Ladies I feel much better after I read your replies...

To be honest I am feeling really depressed and confused.. my morning sickness is getting worst everyday and I barley eat or drink any thing because of it... sooo tired

I went to another doctor yesterday, and basically there is baby bag (the circle thing) and its size is 7 weeks, but with no baby inside, just a tiny dot and no heartbeat... anyway she did it externally as well and booked for another scan next Sunday..

The problem is I have received a call about accepting my master scholarship to study abroad, and I didn't tell them about my pregnancy just waiting for the results next week.. so I have mixed emotions about this..

Ahhhhh I am dieing and feel nobody understand what I am going through, just want to cry cry cry....

Still sounds normal to me hun, sounds like there is a gestational sac with yolk sac forming....and your dates could be slightly out too.

I had a scan yesterday and from external scan she could only see sac but couldn't see what was inside it cause it was so small and certainly no heartbeat from external. I started to cry but then she did internal scan and there was a tiny baby with a heartbeat and yolk sac. It could have just been far too early for external scan for you and maybe you are a bit behind with dates. I should have been 7+1 according to first day of last period but only measured 6+4 cause I ovulated a few days late.

She said I could have internal scan everytime I go if I like cause she said it's a lot easier and clearer esp leading up to 12 weeks.

I will definatley be having internal next time to save the worry that an external one can cause.

Fingers crossed for you that everything is ok at next scan, maybe ask for internal one too.
